Is the 1895 proof Dollar really a surrogate for the non existent* 1895 business strike in a complete Morgan set?
*some speculate that a small number actually do exist.
About -$3,400

I did not realize the Super Bowl is this weekend... and now knowing, I still do not care. I do not follow ball sports, I consider it (my personal opinion) a waste of time and never productive - except for those talented individuals that play the game and make incredible sums of money. i will be doing other things that I enjoy....I hope the event is fun and exciting for those inclined to watch. Cheers, RickO
Steelers.....broke my heart...again.
I assume that you were talking about the first generation NGC slab. A few years ago NGC offered black insert slabs but they are sufficiently different from the first generation slabs that they can be easily differentiated. A few years ago someone sold on eBay a first generation NGC slab shell with the black inset and label for a Saint Gaudens double eagle. I forgot the date on the label but it was a common date. The shell was perfect and whoever cracked out the coin had the good fortune of having the slab separate along the original seam. I forget what the shell brought on eBay but I seem to remember it was about two or three hundred dollars. A few weeks later this slab reappeared on eBay with a new Saint Gaudens double eagle inside with the proper date and grade to match the label. I doubt the owner had access to a sonic welder but rather used crazy glue or similar to reassemble the shells. There was one problem---the scammer put the coin in backwards. The label side on these slabs should show the coin's reverse while the logo side of the slab should show the coin's obverse. I don't remember what it sold for but it only brought a modest premium over the coin's.

What do the Super Bowl & Coin collecting have in common?
Depends. Is it stickered?
