1943 Steel Penny (RPM? )

First off this penny looks to have been replated.
The mint mark looks to be repunched.

  • I am not sure if it is an RPM or the replating made it look that way.
I am not even sure it has been replated but the bluing on the reverse is a good indication it was.

Sure looks replated to me. Snagged a novelty plastic holder of five replated 43's for a few bucks at the flea market, just to have for examination and comparison. Peace Roy

@oldtimmer....Welcome aboard....It does not look like any of the documented RPM's....You could always send it in to VarietyVista for review. Cheers, RickO

    Not a RPM.
Thus type if distortion is common in 43-D and S coins.

    Not a RPM, sorry.

  • Thank you all for your advice and honesty.

  • I have a 1943 with a open top 43 above the 1943. Does anyone know what this is?

What is the 43 above the year date? Was it on the sheet before the planchet was punched?

    All the above.

  • Is this steel penny worth anything? Coin shops don't really know anything about it and have never seen it before...

  • I'm jim59, I'm trying to find out what this steel penny is and how rare it is... does anyone know anything about it and the open top 43 above the date?
