I'm tired of licking yards and yards of tape for registered mail....

After scouring the internet I have to ask my stupid question here.
For shipping coins registered USPS I'm looking for SELF ADHESIVE paper tape that meets the USPS standard. Is there such a thing?
I know it has to be able to absorb the ink from a postmark and the few that I found look shiny or coated like the ink might not take.
I can't find any such thing, so if it exists please guide me to it. ![]()

Licking? Just use a folded up paper towel or a sponge. If you do a lot of registered shipping, get yourself one of these bad boys. It comes with 8 3"x375' rolls of tape, too:

Of course I'm only kidding about the licking part, LOL...
That monster might be a bit too costly.

I'm relieved to learn your tongue suffered only metaphorical paper cuts

Get a dog with a big slobbering tongue.
Staples had a small bottle with a sponge on top for a dollar or two.
Whatever you do, don't buy the peel and stick kraft paper tape. It is horrible and sure to tick off the postal clerk. The ink from their stamp doesn't soak in very well so it tends to smear and get all over their hands.

Yeah, these are probably available for less money than buying new from ULine, even when they throw in $75 worth of tape. I would only get one of these if I needed to use it several times per day, because they make quick work out of taping up a box.

A dampened sponge works just fine for me on that fiber reinforced shipping tape.

That was my main concern, self-adhesive but not with that sheen on it. If it doesn't exist I'll just keep using the stuff that needs to be moistened.

My post office tapes them
@ms70 I have to tell you that when I first glanced at the title of your thread all I saw "I'm getting tired of licking yards" and that was it. Your thread turned out to be a whole lot less interesting than I thought it might be...
Sorry, I got distracted while searching for the tape and came across this.
3.6Sealing
The mailer must securely seal envelopes. Paper or cellulose strips or wax or paper seals must not be placed over the intersections of flaps of letter-size envelopes where the postmark impressions are made. Packages must be sealed with mucilage or glue or with plain paper or cloth tape. Packages containing currency or securities may not be sealed exclusively by paper strips, but must first be sealed securely with **mucilage **or glue. Large envelopes (flats) that are completely sealed and that also have paper strips or paper tape across the intersections of the flaps may be considered packages for sealing requirements
.** To be used on registered mail, tape must visibly damage the envelope or wrapper if removed and must absorb the ink in a postmark impression.**

SELF ADHESIVE PAPER TAPE Self Adhesive Paper Tape The convenience of self adhesive films but far kinder to the the environment
If water activated adhesive is not appropriate in terms of application why not use a self adhesive kraft paper tape? Self adhesive paper is available in kraft (brown) and bleached kraft (white). Both substrates are easily printable in small run lengths with fast delivery times.

I fold several paper towels into quarters, put them in a dish, and wet them with tap water, and use that to moisten the tape. I also pre-cut my tape pieces.

But a sponge, wet it, done.

I have been mailing Registered packages with this Kraft paper tape for years with no problems.

I have one of these. A great purchase if you use a lot of paper tape.
Everyone waiting behind you is rightfully mad at you.
Is this not wax/plastic coated? Most tape like this that I’ve seen means it can’t absorb ink, which means it can’t be used for registered mail.
Get a French Bull
My post office claims the paper tape must be reinforced with the threads for Registered, so the self adhesive stuff is out. I haven’t been able
To find this requirement documented anywhere (also haven’t looked very hard) but it doesn’t really matter. I want to stay on good terms with the local PO so sticky wet mess of tape it is.
I use sponges from a pack I use to clean sinks around the house .
works fast to wet tape.
Reinforced isn't a requirement, but I've never seen paper tape that meets the requirement that isn't reinforced (the self-sealing won't absorb ink because of the layer on the outside of the tape which prevents one layer of tape in the roll from sticking to the next. Here's the requirement:

Sponge works for me.

I use registered infrequently, so wetting the tape with a sponge works for me. The first time I used registered, years ago, I went to the P.O. with a package clear taped... They said no... went back a second time with another tape... they said NO! Then the clerk taped my package for me.... Nice lady, I left and came back with a dozen doughnuts. They said they would tape my packages anytime.
I have done it correctly myself since then. Cheers, RickO
Registered is overkill, like an exercise of a private religious group. I can see it for $5K and above items but not for routine shipping. I never lost an express or had one pilfered.
