Good Looking Raw Buff to me.

I very rarely buy raw coins but this Buff caught my eye. Looks legit to me, ie not cleaned or polished, etc.
What do you guys think?

New it was a 38 before I scrolled down and saw the date. Nice D/D!
The horn, tail and braid look very good. How tough was the negotiated price? Peace Roy

Base 1938-D/D 5C Buffalo MS population 3,877
This is the PCGS population. Won't guess how many NGC and ANACS graded example are out there. Common rpm.
Nice pictures What are you shooting with?
That Buff has excellent detail and clean surfaces.... I fully understand why you purchased this one....Cheers, RickO
Agreed, looks pretty good, and perfectly acceptable as a raw coin.
A very common coin that was overpriced for a raw example. Sorry, but 38-D (even if D/D) Buffalo Nickels are about as generic as older coins get.
This is not the time to be "rolling the dice" on raw 1938-D or D/D nickels. Eye appeal can't save them from just being very common coins. It has nothing to do with "showing respect" (a very overused phrase these days).
nice toning on it cool
Few points:
1. If you like the coin, you like the coin. That's all that should matter.
2. Price is secondary for a coin you are keeping. Obviously, you shouldn't pay $1000 for a $50 coin. But if you pay $40 for a $20 coin you like, who cares? It's a hobby.
3. If you don't want opinions, don't post a coin and ask for opinions.
4. Just FYI. I would never compare a $40 raw coin to a $70 slabbed coin and claim the $40 coin is "cheaper". You are talking about a coin that definitely 65'ed against a coin that might 65 if you spend $30 to get it into a slab. Yes, it might 66 or it might 64 also. But you are really comparing apples to oranges with the price.
5. Enjoy the coin. That's all that matters. [Bears repeating.]

I thought I was being pleasant.
With all due respect, you did compare that price to the $70 price for a slabbed 65. But that was really a secondary point to the one I was trying to make.

And your happiness with it, as I said before, should be the only thing that matters.
You should see the crap I buy. LOL. I like primitive old coins. Most of the people in this forum would scoff at my dirty, crusty, porous, sometimes bent treasures. But, screw 'em, I like 'em and I also like 'em cheap.
I know it is apostasy to say this on this forum, but I would much much much prefer to buy an inexpensive higher end circ Walker than an MS68 Walker any day. Why do I want $10k+ sitting in a safe that I never look at and that may not appreciate in value?
It's a hobby. Enjoy it on your own terms. The heck with anyone who doesn't like what you like!

Mac Vandersteen item? Looks like their photo style although if it is I'm surprised the Obv is a little out of focus.

Look underneath UNITED STATES and at the top of TED STA
maybe I'm seeing things, wouldn't be the first time.

That is weakness due to the higher relief date area on the opposite side of the coin.

I guess I'll join the disrespectful camp and give my opinion also.
Last PCGS MS65 sold for 50 bucks. Last MS65 Rattler sold for 65 bucks. If you can tell anything about the grade from those images, you are better than I am. In my opinion, no reason to spend that much on a raw coin when graded
GEM examples of common as dirt coins are just about as cheap. I can't even be sure the coin is not AU from the images.
I won't see you on Facebook either but it sounds like a great bunch of "Kool" and "Pleasent" folks there. We will miss you real bad.
This is my best raw. Your pictures are awesome

He paid a whopping $40 for the coin. It might be common but it sure is pretty and he likes it.
I went out for dinner with my wife last night and spent $200. Are you going to tell me my meal was overpriced?
No, you got a good deal.
Yes! You could have gone to the White Castle and gotten out the door for less than $10!
"The" 1938-D/D is RPM-2. This is RPM-1, far less common.
who boasts of twenty years experience in his craft
while in fact he has had only one year of experience...
twenty times.
Since we are talking about nice raw Buffaloes, mind if I drop in a few? There's been about four new topics on Buffs today and I don't want to add yet another but also don't want to hijack here. None as toned as @crazyhounddog likes but I think he'd approve of them.

Good looking Tatanka... Nice to see a raw example posted which isn't considered made out of clay
Boy, the more I see of these uncirculated Buffalos, the more I realize what a beautiful coin that was.......
I approve of any and all buffalo threads unless they are made of terra cotta. I also enjoy purchasing them raw.
Clearly a double D and a pretty good strike to go with it.

A nice score and a great addition to your herd.
I picked this one off for $15.50
Even though they are common as dirt, I think I got a good deal
I may throw it in my next submission for the hell of it. I like the color, and I think it has a good shot at 66. Stay tuned
