Damage or Something Else

In going through my bags of 1982 pennies, I ran across the attached. It looks like a large date, however the #2 looks different to me. Not sure what this is. Thanks

    Your coin is a LARGE date. On a small date, the top loop of 8 is significantly smaller like a snowman's head.

    Thanks. There must have been a weakness in that number that year because I have run across several that are damaged in exactly the same way on that number. How odd.
