A 90-year old relative of mine asked me to look through his coins today, and I was happy to oblige. No key dates, but a nice pile of silver. I’ve never handled that many Mercs before—a real treat!!

Nice. Any 1919-P Mercs? Check for the obverse doubling.
Look out for 21 +21 d Mercs and 32 mm quarters. Looks like fun. Good Whitman or Dansco fodder.
Nice coin arrangement!

Look to have been pulled from circulation two generations ago

Wow! This is a visual treat and instant high for all collectors... love the way you have grouped and arranged them.. Cheers!
Opportunities like that don't come along often. Sure, they might all be fairly well circulated, but going through an unsearched group of coins like this stirs up the excitement of search and discovery. Makes me feel like a kid again - back in the days when I actually could stumble upon these in circulation.
My strategy is about collecting what I intend to keep, not investing in what I plan to sell.
That is great... I believe most of us would jump at the chance to search a pile of silver like that... A lot of fun even if no special treasure is found. Cheers, RickO
Some of those have nice original skin. Some CircCams. Thanks for sharing!

Nice coins! Love the arrangement.
Friend of mine had something similar in frame hung up in his den (not as many) It was stolen by GF on her way out never to return.
I can see why that would be fun to go thru.
Bet your relative was pleased too. Fun for any collector.
Yep, I was able to run my hands through a pile of silver a few months ago from my parents.
Nothing rare, all circulated, but fun as hell...
To me, it would be interesting to know:
WHY?
Looking at the dates, even the 1960's quarters show considerable wear, so were they random coins that wandered in late, or why did they get pulled when they did? With so many Merc's, it would seem that silver Roo's were not being kept for some period, but Merc's yes, so was it the silver or the "obsolete" coin. Also, all the SLQ's are date slicked, which calls to use the diagnostics for the 1916's.
Having pulled a lot of silver in the 1960's, I would hazard a guess that in 1966, if you went to the bank and got $500 of dimes, quarters, and half dollars, you would pull more silver and better silver, that was is here. Just thinking about what triggered the saving and timeframe of the coins.
These would have been good candidates for the $50 an ounce silver melt.
Now for silver to hit $50 again. But then, sometimes sentimental attachment outweighs the $$$. Neat stuff to look through.

I'm fortunate.
I have very very little sentimental attachment to *things *.
That helps in this business.
