The Official "No....we are NOT at FUN this year. but let's talk about coins anyway" thread!

Post a pic, ask a question, tell a story...anything on the topic of numismatics is fair game! I'll start. I stole this(not really, but based on the final hammer price, that's how I felt)Mercury Dime from our forum friend @giorgio11 a while back. I really like the toning on the reverse! After all...life is too short to buy ugly, coins, yes? Maybe this thread can help those of us not in Orlando the next few days!

I need a good Merc for my box of 20 or 35ish...
One of these days, I'm going to make that FUN show. Here's my current favorite coin.
Also, don't you hate it when you get all done taking pics, cropping them just right, uploading and THEN
notice the little black hair on the slab.

Hoping for lots of show reports. Sort of in a holding pattern on buying to see what transpires at the show. Hope this thread goes well for us no shows. Edit to add nice Merc.
I hope to hear from @Kkathyl and look forward for her show report
This hobby calls for sustainability with a lot of focus as well as discipline to stay within a narrow lines of interest ..... I am yet to discover
Please don't tell others I fancy modern ..... modern medals too which seems to be out side the box of the normal classic term of collecting.

There are so many pretty little ones to stay focus on a few
Here are some of my medals ..... I really love the reverse
It's just ugly enough for me.
Paper money eventually returns to its intrinsic value. Zero. Voltaire. Ebay coinbowlllc
My KotCT medal images are coming through, thanks to @robec !
I know, you guys have seen these medals before...but you have not seen mine!

I will just be looking forward to all the FUN reports.....Cheers, RickO
Barring a life altering event...I am planning to go next year! Anyone in Georgia who wants to ride along, message me after New Years Day!
FadeToBlack - is that a white rattler in the front of your box?? How much??
Missing FUN for the 1st time in a while - not feeling good about it.....
@Hallco If you are feeling all buyer's-remorsey (that's a word, right) over the oh-too-cheap Mercury dime you won on eBay, feel free to pop a $20-buck bill in the mail. I am sure you will feel better about it right away.
But yes, "Life Is Too Short To Buy Ugly Coins!" Ironically, I have never been to FUN either, although I have a few coins that are being shown around down there (private deal), but I told Mrs VDB only yesterday morning "You know, I really need to go to FUN sometime." @Paradisefound there is nothing wrong with a total lack of focus ... I too like medals, and those American Libertys are classy ladies (like you). The obvious solution to this dilemma, one I have pursued for more than 50 years now, is just to Buy Some of Everything! @Ricko good to hear from you this morning as well and I too am looking forward to those show reports. (Maybe one day they wil l have FUN a little further north?).
Kind regards to you all,
George
I have never made it to FUN, tax season it here.
Perhaps, if I ever retire I'll go.

I’ll admit, I’m kinda sad I’m not attending the FUN show this year. I’ve been to 5 of them. The first was just about grasping the magnitude of the bourse and seeing just how much gold and coins in my interest area there is for sale etc. and to meet dealers for the first time in person. I was obsessed with hunting Lincoln’s in 65 BN for an early date run. Over those years I made enough face to face connections to add to my collection just fine without the travel.
I had small kids those years too and I was always homesick the second I put my bags down and took me a day to reflect on why the heck I needed to do this so bad! Once I skipped a year and just put the cost of the travel and the value of missed work into a purchase, that fit for me and I just sort of lost interest in going.
Now my kids are 10-12 and it looks like Disney will have a Star Wars theme park open in fall of this year so we’re actually slated to take the family to FL and I picked during the FUN show so I’ll have to wait a year but plan on attending again in 2020. Not sure if it’s in Orlando or Tampa but doesn’t matter we usually fly into OLando and leave out of Tampa anyway. Love the white sand beaches. We did this one year with kids in Feb to the Universal Harry Potter parks when my daughter was into that and had a blast.
So yeah, I hope it’s a great show for all. Looking to read the reports and maybe snag a nice newp from one of my favorite dealers post show offerings.
This is a coin I bought at one FUN, thanks guys
I've only been to FUN once, and it was exactly 10 years ago. I hope to get back down there sometime soon...
It's an awesome show without exception!

Like you, I was busy preparing taxes until 2013. I was able to attend my first FUN in 2014 and it was a blast. I added 3 beautiful coins to my collection at that show. Winter FUN is definitely the best show of the year in my opinion, even better than the ANA Conventions I attended in the 70s, 80s and 90s.
it's crackers to slip a rozzer the dropsy in snide
Some day we'll meet up there.

Went to FUN in 2005, an unforgettable event. Spent 4 days in Orlando while my wife and her sister went to EPCOT. I guarantee I had a better time. This was one of the cherries I picked, an FS-103 unattributed in a PGCS MS-66 slab. Still have it and still unattributed. One day I'll get back.
That's why I normally put my pants on before I image my coins.
I wasn't able to make this year's FUN show, but last night I got this note from Lincoln Vanderblatt, who was on the bourse yesterday.
