1915 50c and 1927-S 25c value question

ajaanajaan Posts: 17,613 ✭✭✭✭✭

I have a friend who is interested in selling a 1915 50c and 1927-s 25c both in VG. He offered the coins to me but I'm not sure what value to place on them. My 8 mo. old Greysheet has the 25c @ $50 and the half @ $110. Are these accurate values? TIA

Don't buy coins from friends. Advise them of a realistic wholesale price and send them to a local dealer who you trust.

And those are retail, dealers might(!) pay 40$ for the pair unless they look closer to fine.

Best to not buy coins from friends.... others will tell them they were ripped off... Cheers, RickO

Is it better to have him sell to a local dealer at 40% of greysheet?

Careful with the 15, even at VG there are a lot of tampered-with coins out there. Look for any shadows or bumps where the mintmark should be.

Thanks, I'll take a look at it.

I advised my friend to hang on to the coins for a while.

I grade the 1915 Good-VG and the 27-S VG/G. The 27-S is not a difficult coin in that grade. Good that you passed on them.
