Hi, anybody has an idea if Harry Bass will be sold this year or next year ? The 20 years loan ends this year.

The page describes the remaining part of the collection as "permanent" which I would assume to mean no sale?
it was for loan for 20 years, this I know. They can extend the loan or sell the collection.
I'm sure they have other choices than extending the existing loan or selling the collection. The loan was to the ANA. They can choose to extend the loan to the ANA, loan the collection to another organization or retrieve the collection and put it into storage/display so there is no loan at all.
The text is from the Foundation's website and I would interpret the text to mean the coins are permanent to the Foundation, regardless of whether the pieces are loaned out to the ANA or other organizations.
Yes the foundation owns the coins of course and only the foundation could sell them. Financially it would be a wise decision for them to sell them. The whole foundation is 76 Million USD only:

If they just sell the collection and buy real estate from it, they would have much higher income that they then can give back to the community:

That shows $38.4M in marketable securities. The stock market has done fairly well since 2014.
In any event, it's up to the foundation to decide if they want to sell or not and their website indicates it's a "permanent collection", which I would interpret to mean no intention to sell. Of course, things could change.
I hope they leave it intact for all generations to see...I hope they do not sell it off bit by bit..
The Foundation's track record on supporting the numismatic items Harry wanted is poor. All of the initiatives he promoted are dead or in zombie-land due to lack of Foundation support.
I anticipate sale of the coins through a major auction company after the expected publicity run-up. Planning might already be in progress.

My experience with the Foundation has not been positive. They have numismatic files that I wanted to research and publish, but they couldn't be bothered.
I imagine Hansen will be following the (potential) sale of this collection with interest, keeping in mind that the sole example of the 1870-S $3 is the property of the Bass Foundation.
Maybe they are not staffed for that and need to do something at a higher level like work to publish everything on the NNP. Can someone from the NNP reach out to them?
I graded and appraised the collection in 2011 while I was at Stacks...some incredible coins for sure!
I just see very dirty pool among the trustees and a big auction house (not the one you'd think either). I want in the on the deal!

The 70S is really beat up. That is a Delloy type classic rarity. I can't see many other buyers lined up.

No, I think the linkage to NNP is a good idea. I was saying the other poster's negative experience might have been the result of inadequate staffing due to insufficient funding.

Why dont you call the foundation and ask them ? You might get your patterns and we an answer.

I can give you the Trustees contact info, when I get home from vacation, got it from JD. Might want to contact JD to see if he has been on good terms since the Bass/ JD book. AFAIK, that was last time they worked with the Bass files, said they have been deep sixth since.
