Paramount Holders

When will PCGS come up with a slab style that fits my paramounts?

With new leadership I think this is an issue that may be looked at.... fingers crossed.

As an owner of hundreds of these, I like the sticker on the case. Also not a fan of the PCGS GSA holders. What I really wish is that CAC would start stickering them like they do for GSA's. I keep asking.

PS, above coin is not a Redfield.

Mrslider, can you give a pros/cons and a cost benefit analysis for PCGS doing so?
I think it is a cool idea, but, does it make sense? Does it make business sense?

@Bochiman thank you for bringing up these points.

Pro - Ability to add coins to the pcgs registry without having them in regular pcgs slabs. There have got to be some great dollars out there in holders, just because they are not being cracked out and placed in PCGS standard holders.
Pro - Having the professional opinion of PCGS on grade may help with the sale of the coin when the time comes.
Pro - Attract more potential clients.
Pro - Attribution types (fee based service) Many cool VAM's in these early holders

Con- Having to stock different supplies (possibly different sealant/size slab/labels?)
Con- Would not fit in PCGS slab tray for shipping

I can not give a true cost analysis for PCGS to provide such a service, as I am not employed there and do not know the exact cost of materials, labor, etc. But if it services were priced similar to GSA slabs, it must be viable because they already offer that service. Also it would create additional coins eligible for submission, as many I have spoken with see another TPG the only way to go with these.

Being able to offer more services seems to make business sense to me, but hey, I do not run a TPG and I don't pretend to. I only know that as a consumer I would like to see the extra premium on these coins when time comes to sell, as it is PCGS that seems to be getting more attention in auctions lately.

I am sure there are many more reasons on both the pro and con side that I am not seeing. Perhaps you would be able to fill in the gaps?

You have some good points, from a collector's standpoint and your own (I don't have any of these, so I can't come at it from my own viewpoint).

However, from "pros/cons" and the business cost analysis, I meant from the PCGS side of the issue.
They're a business. The best way to appeal to them is to show where it can be done easily, and build market share, or maybe a little more difficult but still make a ton of revenue from it.

The fact that they haven't, yet, likely means that they either haven't thought it to be a priority, haven't thought about it at all, or looked into it and the ROI isn't there...particularly compared to other items.

Remember, they are a relatively small business with finite resources and investors/shareholders that they do have to answer to.

So, how many of these holders are out there?
How much business have they lost to NGC by not having something that would work?
How much potential business could they get?
    Would it slow things down?
What would be the cost to get it up and running?
Are the coins LEFT in these holders likely to be anything special that could be shown off by them?

Those are the types of questions, needing answers (which, admittedly, you may not know but it should still be thought through that way, imho), that would help in the approach on this.

Going by the AMA ("Ask Me Anything") that was just done, PCGS has a lot of their plate. To add something else, when there are useful things NOT happening, there needs to be good business reasons for it....or because something is totally broken and would be a big black eye if it wasn't done.

    Just my $0.02 on it.

I think you have excellent points. I agree that it doesn’t rank too high on the list of priorities, it would just be nice to see it on the list.

I suspect an edit 10 minutes after Wabbit's post corrected this.

Hey @Ricko, OP called it a Redfield when he first posted and then changed it. The NGC label would say "Redfield" and the front of the holder also says "Redfield".

Yes, the first picture I had posted was NOT a redfield, my apologies.
Once this was pointed out, I edited the original post and included a redfield.

The pictures were all sitting next together, my mistake. A Redfield obviously says “Redfield”.

I think it is highly unlikely that PCGS will spend money on trying to come up with a special holder for the Paramount coins. There are not enough of them out there that would potentially be submitted to justify the expense. PCGS needs to stay on track and come up with a holder that defeats the counterfeiters once and for all. It will not be an easy job and it will likely cost quite a bit of money to develop.

    All glory is fleeting.

So what would they do with the NGC sticker on the side now?
