1894 Medal HK-245 Type 1 California Midwinter Expo San Fransisco

I was looking for "last purchase of the year" thread and couldn't find it
This just arrive tonight so I guess this is my last for 2018.
.
If anyone wants to post their SCD's or items from the expo I would love to see them
.
.
I have always loved this design. Even DC created a medal for the Glendale Coin Club with this design which I own several
but not the gold one they had minted.

From the so called dollar book.....
"1894 California Midwinter Exposition Official Medal, HK-245, R.5, Brass, 33 mm. The purpose of this Exposition was: "To bring to California, exposition of 'worldwide interest and significance'; to divert public mind from Panic of 1893; to bring home seekers to state, showing them 'resources and versatility of its inhabitants"
I found this from Jeff Shelvin’s Site.....
The exposition official medal was struck in the Mechanics Building at the exposition under contract by agent J. W. Ewing of the U.S. Interior Department, its purpose was to showcase the great wealth and riches of California to the world. Dies were engraved by Charles E. Barber and produced by the Philadelphia Mint. Gold-plated medals were struck on opening day.

Here's another medal and image from Mike Kittle, @illini420. Hopefully he'll chime in on this thread
I don't have one yet, but Dan, @dcarr, does great work for the Glendale Coin Club!
I think the bear looks like a Hog with a lotta hair!
Dear Stephanie ..... you have the most unique additions throughout the year ..... very exquisite indeed
Here is a muted HK-258 and HK-259 that was bronzed; it's referenced as SH 7-15 in Jeff Shevlin's / Bill Hyder's new book on West Coast Expositions.
I was able to buy this one from Bill Hyder. It's nice in hand and darker and just oddly cool ....

These are all great examples. Thank you for posting them.
Certainly one of my favorite medals. Thanks for posting!
I recently had one of these HK-245 medals in MS63PL, was a pretty amazing example.
The HK-245A isn't too bad either and the bear looks less like a pig on that one!
Yes, in 2016 our Glendale Coin Club had Daniel Carr use the California State Seal design from the HK-245 so-called dollar as the basis for our coin club medal that year. He did an excellent job recreating the design as you can see in the photos posted by others above.
