Looks like strike doubling aka mechanical or ejection doubling I do not see any splits in the tips of the CC, just flat shelf like jumps on the back of each C. I have no experience with CC mint coins at all.

Looks like strike doubling to me as well. If it is valid doubling them you would have a repunched mintmark, not a doubled die.

Incomplete planchets wanted, especially Lincoln Cents & type coins.

The flat, shelf like appearance looks like machine doubling to me as well

    This is correct.
    Machine doubling.

The correct term is "doubled die", and this is not a doubled die. It isn't a repunched mint mark (RPM) either, though that term fits closest. It looks like machine doubling - the die rattled as the coin was being stamped, which cause this chatter.

Definitely not a DD.... I would like to see the full reverse though.... Cheers, RickO

  • Sorry for the lousy pictures.
These are not mine. I will post better images when I can.
    This is it for now.

If the coin is an 1884-CC it has an auction value of about $200-$250 based on obverse damage visible in the photo.

  • So even with the CC “error” it’s only with $200?

  • Please let me know what I can look for as well. I have a new iPhone and that’s the best camera I own.

Biased on your photo I would send that back if possible.

Looks like a C3b reverse (check Vamworld for reverses on this date).

I would value this under $200...perhaps well under.
