Thanks to @ThePennyLady for her awesome posts I saw her love of these penny tea pots. I decided I had to find one so one night and a glass of wine later I'm on ebay and boom theres one staring me in the face and I bid and waited and then I woke up the next morning with my you won notification. Being a dealer that travels the east coast I've never seen one at a show so needless to say I'm happy with my small purchase it is small!!!!

After being inspired by @ThePennyLady myself I set out to find examples - I have the IHC, the Lincoln Wheat and curiously even a GV Canada cent that have been made into similar tea pots. Purportedly they were made in a workshop in a prison on the east coast in the 1930s and sold to the public for 25 cents.

Don't get it -- a coin is modified into the shape of a teapot? Handles added. Then painted gold?
From what I understand these and other items like them were made by prisoners in MA and possibly some other institutions in an around New England. In the case of the NE. prison they were supposedly made in the 1930's and the guards would take them across the street from the prison to a cafe and sell them for 50c-$1 and then tell the prisoners they got 5-10c for them.

Congratulations CoinsMakeCents on acquiring one of these very fun pieces. I too love to collect them, as well as other things made out of or using pennies. I've done an exhibit, written articles and given presentations on these types of penny exonumia. The ANA even published one of my articles in the Numismatist a few years ago. I hope I'm not hi-jacking your thread but I just thought I'd add some history and explanation about these pieces.
Prisoners and soldiers used coins, especially pennies, to make these charms. Prisoners would sell them at the prison souvenir shop or guards would take them into nearby communities to sell for them. Also the prison would give them out as a thank you to its contributors. Soldiers also made them during their down time and would sell them in nearby communities or send them home to their loved ones.
They would make all sorts of different charms out of pennies including ashtrays, hearts, bells, irons, buckets, ladles, candlestick holders, mugs, canteens, padlocks, coffee pots, pitchers, creamers, pots, footballs, salt and pepper shakers, frying pans, sugar bowls, baseballs, and footballs and also made charm bracelets out of them. Here are some of the ones in my collection:
I was fortunate enough to acquire this original note cards that was included with the teapots, as well as an original box they came in. I was also given this letter from a warden to one of the prison contributors enclosing a teapot from a fellow penny teapot collector.

Would love to find a V-nickel pot. I see one posted above, so I know at least one existed.
The teapots were also made out of other denominations but they are very rare. Here's one made from a dime, though it's not mine.

I’m sure my daughter would love one for her little people.
On a side note, My wife got me this about a year ago. A 1727 LOUIS XV Écu with silver DÉPOSÉ loupe and silver chain.
