Honestly...I couldn’t see that in a 66 holder...let alone 66+. Not with those reed marks on the reverse
Come on, guys. This crap is why I won’t collect sets any more
I understand why you dont agree on the grade for this coin, but why would it influence your decision to collect sets?
When you don’t agree with enough grades in a series, it’s time to quit the game
Or just buy older non pronged holder coins.
Gradeflation isn't all the grading services fault, as the collectors today want the highest label number they can get on a coin they resubmit. They really aren't too concerned if it's the proper number that actually fits the grade of the coin.

TDN is right. As a fellow seated dollar collector, this coin is no where close to a 66+. A sad state of grading on this one. It struggles to maintain gem status as a 65 in my mind.
Coin looks a little nicer at arm's length. (Before it was regraded) It does not appear to be a crack-out since the old number is gone from the database, suggesting it was a regrade. Trueviews on dollars generally show every single mark in vivid detail.
Nope just dipped by someone who knew how to properly rinse a coin.
Have to disagree with that. There's some spots due to an improper dip rinse per the Heritage image. I've seen a few coins in 6 holders with this; I would never buy one of them.

Nice coin! $50,000.00 nice!
Why not? That 1871 that I inadvertently did an eraser mistake on in my early days is not only still finest known 66 but also CAC approved.
And the mark is easily visible.
That coin belongs to a customer of mine. It was just regraded.
I'm not at liberty to discuss the grade, but you'd be shocked.
Its dynamite.

Pops say 1 at 66 and 2 at 66+.
It’s a 66+ according to PCGS. Not according to CAC...nor myself
CoinFacts shows it is now a 66+
This is what a real
66+ reverse looks like. No motto dollars are heavily weighted to the reverse - the area above the eagle is a primary focus area.

This is going to be a real good thread until it gets poofed.

does rarity affect grading standards?

Gradeflation can erode the value of non-inflated coins.
who looks at the reverse to determine grade?

66+ appears to be very ambitious

Ambitious.....................I like that
Yikes! I thought PCGS was tightening - only for "cheap" 3 and 4 figure coins I guess . . . .
That is the way it goes for a lot of coins MS66 and higher. Many 65s Too.
Based on the ticks, reed marks, and total lack of originality in the True View, I thought it was a marginal coin even as a 65.
No motto Seated dollar collectors, that’s who
Buy the coin, not the holder.

It's a Happy Coin (see sig line).
65 seems right. Why are they showing the old holder?
