Surface Looks Like a Cent

Interesting how the surface of Mars has the tone of a cent.
Below is insight’s and Curiosity’s selfie. Millions of miles away in a hostile environment and they can take a better pic then I can of a coin inches from my grasp.

Unlike a cent... the Mars surface does not progress to brown... Those are incredible pictures, I have been watching this mission... should be interesting when they start drilling....If they strike oil, there will be multiple manned flights in a year....

Can you imagine the pipeline??
Cheers, RickO
LOL Depends on which parking lot the cent is found.
Is the '09 Lincoln sitting on the rear left of Curiosity? Thanks for sharing --
@Akbeez Yes, if you mean where the camera mount is located. Hard to figure out what is front/rear.
Location of the ‘09 cent on Curiosity

The reason for the cent on Curiosity.
"When a geologist takes pictures of rock outcrops she is studying, she wants an object of known scale in the photographs," said MAHLI Principal Investigator Ken Edgett, of Malin Space Science Systems, San Diego. "If it is a whole cliff face, she'll ask a person to stand in the shot. If it is a view from a meter or so away, she might use a rock hammer. If it is a close-up, as the MAHLI can take, she might pull something small out of her pocket. Like a penny."
“Edgett bought the special penny that's aboard Curiosity with funds from his own pocket. It is a 1909 "VDB" cent, from the first year Lincoln pennies were minted, the centennial of Abraham Lincoln's birth, with the VDB initials of the coin's designer - Victor David Brenner -- on the reverse.”

Thanks but was referencing the pic you first posted -- but looks like the actual location is on a vertical plane, not horiz. Can't see that in the pics.
Is Mars really orange or is that an illusion?
That is a cool pic!

As far as I can tell by the material from NASA they were normal color pics. Of course, they have so many cameras and sensors who knows.
I agree. Based upon the wheel it appears it’s on the outside edge of the body below the camera/sensor mount/column.
