Interesting thought - - 24/7 Automated Safe Deposit Box Access ?

1630Boston1630Boston Posts: 14,111 ✭✭✭✭✭

I never thought of this, 24/7 SDB Access. - WHAT COULD POSSIBLY GO WRONG?

Consider the new SafeStore Auto, an automated self-service system for safe deposit boxes (SDBs). This system gives your clients around-the-clock access to their box contents resulting in a better, much more convenient service. Added benefits - SafeStore reduces the costs associated with traditional SDBs, but also generates a stream of revenue added value upsales.

That looks like a terminal that robotically retrieves your particular box. While perhaps expensive initially, an idea that may work.
At least it eliminates all the salaries of human employees or guards that are necessary at live 24/7 deposit box sites.
Interesting anyway. At least until it returns someone elses box to you......

Hmm... likes like that is a deposit only terminal. How would it retrieve? Interesting.

Anyways where there’s a will there’s way. At least in a B&M bank this can’t be done. I hope.

I will need more detail.... the video does not show how things are deposited or recovered...or where they are stored... If the 'units' are mobile, where is the product? :/ Cheers, RickO

Great, then if someone steals your key or access card, there is no one at the bank to verify that you are the right person.

I remember reading back in the 80's about a non-bank safety deposit box company in Denver that offered 24/7 access. One day the people that ran it cleaned it out and disappeared.

Some things should just be left alone. Want to get stuff out of your SDB plan for going to the bank during their regular hours of operation and have a bank employee with a familiar face assist with opening box.

I agree with the above post -

It's not smart to trade convenience for safety, or for possible
    unknown events.

Bad idea for reasons almost too numerous to list.

Computerized machines control some of the most important systems in the world, including security.

There is no reason why, built correctly, this could not work.

Yep. I remember the same story. Really, who needs access to their SDB at 3 A.M.?

This. And when they make me show ID and sign in, and then look at me and my signature, even though they know me, I thank them. That's the level of security I'm paying for.

I agree. Someone invents a “master key”. Then has access to all boxes

    In theory, it could work.

But in practice, I would want to see a 10 year track record without problems before I would even start to consider it.
