2018 Sacagawea/Jim Thorpe gold dollar Mint cancelled/waffled

Can anyone give me an idea of what this may be worth? I believe it was struck twice on the reverse side so they waffled it. But im no expert. Thank you for your help.

I don't see how it can be struck twice on only one side.... :*

With the lovely mint cancellation, does it really matter? Peace Roy

Where did you find this 'coin'??? In a bag from the mint?? I have not seen a coin destroyed in that manner from the mint.....Of course, I do not know what methods they are using now. Cheers, RickO

I wouldn't mind to own this, you can certainly tell the exact type coin.

    I'm slightly price sensitive, however...

P.S. How can you tell if a coin is waffled by the Mint, or by one of its official contractors, versus being privately waffled in somebody's machine shop?

These, and their type, were a favorite of a home shopping channel in the past. As I remember, they are run through a waffling process at the mint and sold as scrap to a dealer who is supposed to recycle them. Seems the contract is not specific enough and the dealer is selling them as mint wonders. LOL

    A quick Google search ( (https://google.com/search?q=waffling+cancled+mint+coins&oq=waffling+cancled+mint+coins&aqs=chrome..69i57.17911j0j1&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8 )
Turned up several results from our fair forum. Here is one:

There are a few waffled Sacs on eBay. I'm not sure if any of them are double struck.

I can't see the double strike on the reverse.

    Maybe another photo of it?

The two of the reverse are a bit blurry, and
    need to be rotated too.

There was a dealer at the WFM in Philadelphia who had a large quantity of waffle cancelled coins. Don't remember who but you couldn't miss the table display. Peace Roy

I personally don't see any error, but presumably there is a reason they rejected it. In any case, Fred W. will have to let us know if waffled error coins have any value as errors.

If anyone slabs these I'd get it into a slab if I valued it, as once someone comes up with a way to recreate this effect then all the raw ones will be worthless. At least that's the way I see it.

  • Will do thank you

    Holy smokes!
I hope there's a little warning sign on the mechanism responsible for making that.
