I just noticed that the spot price of Palladium is higher than Gold.

Platinum is looking good, by now. Speaking of coins, there's availability galore.
    Grade still trumps density.

You scare people with titles like that. I thought JA was retiring, that the TPGS were adopting a 100 point grading scale, or that one of the grading services had filed bankruptcy or something... :D

noone around here is selling Platinum.

P.S. Kitco is now showing palladium around $1224 and gold around $1238/oz.

we have Gold @ $1,237.80 and Palladium @ $1,242.50 --- this is an argument i have had here before called "Pick your web site" because there are dozens of them and they never show the same thing.

BTW --- sorry to scare people, i tend to have lots of power lately. the world trembles when i speak and bows when i walk by.

So that's why my hand is shaking! ;)

When buying precious metal, I always prefer to use the lower one. :p

With platinum hovering around a five year low (and at half of its five year high), I wouldn't be too eager to sell either. If I was a bullion stacker, I would invest in platinum.

I bet a lot of women wish they hadn't gone with the platinum wedding band right about now.

I think Platinum is a better alternative than White Gold and now much cheaper.

C'mon now, we all know the palladium market is manipulated. Too few producers.

    Yeah, I'd say the world's gone loony-tune.

I think the price reflects a demand which can't be met, so the price will rise till it is.

OR, the major users will switch to other acceptable materials. This used to be done in auto catalysts (and still could be). When Rhodium or Palladium spiked, the catalyst was changed to another validated design with different ratios.

Edited to add: Keep in mind that the major auto makers are buying large amounts of precious metals under multi-year contracts, well below spot prices. We never got excited about short term spot prices because we didn't buy metals in that market.

Palladium is used in some Hydrogen fuel cells, which are starting to become more common.

I will stick with silver and gold... Too old to be getting into the speculative metals... Cheers, RickO

Palladium is to copper what nickel is to gold.

Unless you are in Europe. Their white gold is gold alloyed with palladium, unlike the U.S. that uses nickel. Nickel is toxic, and they don't allow its use for things that come into contact with the body.

But considerably harder to work in making jewelry.

    Lots of industrial demand.
