Curious about your thoughts on the toning on this Morgan...

RABRAB Posts: 135 ✭✭✭✭

Came across this one while perusing Ebay (the auction is ended, I did not bid):

I did a cert check, and saw that it had a TrueView...

I wonder which pictures it looks closer to in hand? ;)

But seriously, what's the consensus on toning like this? Likely NT? Likely AT?

Some of the recent threads on what can be nefariously done to a coin while in a holder have me really concerned. Here we have a coin in a gold shield holder and a CAC sticker, but toning that makes me go...hmm? (Or maybe I just can't get the seller's pics out of my mind!)

So, what do you all think? Thanks!

    Looks like a return candidate.

No doubt the TV is closer to reality. The seller pics look like an outrageous AT job but the TV looks NT with the more subdued colors.
Looks to me like this is a seller that should be avoided.

Seller has juiced the pic to enhance colour but certainly looks like AT. Slabbed and stickered. SMH

I'd call it M.A. Which leaves wiggle room, LOL

It looks ok based on the TV. The seller deserves a neg just for doing such an obvious juice job.

    For $865, I predict a return.

    From the same seller:

I agree with NT, but it looks more like a $400 coin to me.

The coin in question is NT all day and twice on Sunday’s. Those thinking AT need to look at a lot more toners and educate themselves.

As for the seller’s comically juiced pics, that’s another story. I’ve messaged this guy before and told him to knock it off...

    exactly to a T!
The TV is the actual, nice piece.

If this coin is AT and over graded, as some say, how did it get by PCGS and CAC too? :o

If the coin looks like the PCGS photo it is quite nice. If it looks like the seller's photos it is just plain ugly. My opinion.

I hope the seller’s full time job is not a photographer/videographer for special events such as weddings and baptisms! Yikes!

Good coin and toning, super juicy pics that are nowhere near accurate. Just a plain dishonest seller.

Don't go there. Major juicing going on here!

I think that's the guy who bought 4 Morgans off me (raw, stated as being low MS at best coins, not worth grading) for way too freakin much money then negged me when I refused a return (as stated in listing, multiple times) and accused me of cleaning them before i sent them to him lol.

You know what they say about karma. :)

IMO, the Morgan is naturally toned. I think one would find that the color is somewhere between the TrueView and the sellers obviously over-saturated pic. The TrueView's never seem to capture the luster but rather have more of a flat look to them.

Looks like a nice NT coin to me and the CAC sticker is pretty important in that regard. I'm sure it looks much like the TrueView and not at all like the hyper-juiced picture shown on eBay.

The cert picture looks like real_** bag toning**_ to me The top picture looks too electric and a reverse that would be beauty in the eye of the beholder, because the obverse of the top picture looks terrible. I really like that cert picture obverse and reverse, very appealing. JA saw, he beaned, it conquered. CAC rules!

Which only goes to show if you don't believe the coin's TPG stature in the first place CAC proves they were right !-

There are several threads on this guys juiced images.

I know who he is, he does anything when the returns come ( and they are frequent) to keep his 100% positive.

He has a GSA I have seen auction at least 10 times. That means 10 returns.

The seller pictures are obviously fake... The TruView pictures are reasonable and could be NT...Cheers, RickO
