I can live with the fact that my registered shipment is 11 days out...

CoinstartledCoinstartled Posts: 10,135 ✭✭✭✭✭

...and unaccounted for the last 6 days.

The indifference and even rudeness though of the postal workers tasked to help is mind numbing.

Last lady I spoke to at the destination city post office gave me a number to call and said..."good luck with that."

She was right...line has been ringing now for 3 minutes.

    8 minutes.

I have time...main 800 number has promised to call me back in an hour.

    Fed Ex from now on!

I couldn't agree more with you!
Purchased a super nice and rare token from Ebay oversees.
I've purchased from him many times with no problem. Now its been sitting at the Los Angeles
facility going on 11 days now. I went in and they said just wait for it because its in customs.
They never traced it, nor would they when I asked. I always have issues with my PO.

No answer now from the main post office in my town (5 minutes).

Maybe the national day of mourning has been extended a day.

All good and well, Peter, but Ebay is quick to charge back high value sales after 14 days if tracking shows no movement for 7. To your point...that is why I am trying to get someone to find out where the stalemate is. I am doing my job as a seller...they are refusing to do theirs.

    Registered, no mas

The 800 number is a joke. You need to call the last main, large post office that your package went through and ask for "consumer affairs". For example, I mailed a package from Twinsburg, OH post office. But the last main large one it went through was Cleveland.

This is the typical USPS of today. A few years ago, purchased a PCGS graded 3cs. It was to go from California to Wyoming. When the coin didn't show and couldn't be tracked online, I started the insurance process. The coin arrived 66 days after it had been mailed. The funny part is the USPS offered no explanation for the delay. just sayin...mh

Agree, strangely they sometimes get stuck in "Departed from ______" status for a few days before suddenly popping back up at the destination PO. I had an ebay sale that I shipped registered take almost two weeks, thankfully the buyer was understanding. I was going through the same thing you are when trying to find where it went, they actually closed my case as resolved before even locating my package. I wasn't happy but continue to use them because USPS is still the best delivery service out there.

Good advice, Morpheus.....I will try to get that number and call. Stupervisor at my local po gave me a number for that location, but it was incorrect.

Edit...that was a dead end number as well. I'll keep trying.

Thanks Topstuf. I called the Pony Express and they were saddled with too much Amazon business.

Got the right guy when national 800 number called me back. Found the package at the last scanned thru location locked in a cage. Sounds like he is providing the poke needed to get the package needed.

You'll have to add another day. No delivery tomorrow (12/5).

Registered mail is an anachronism. Customer service by phone is 90% phased out.

  • koynekwestkoynekwest Posts: 10,048 ✭✭✭✭✭

Personal service ANYWHERE is pretty much a thing of the past any more. I personally handled customer inquiry for express mail 20 years ago until they instituted the good old "1-800" system in 2003 and did away with my job, upon which I retired.

    Buyer has been cool.

Unless Ebay has changed, not arrived complaint can be initiated after 7 days. Refund issued on day fourteen.

Looks like this will be ok...but 3 hours spent where a half hour visit should have been sufficient.

I'll do FedEx or UPS overnight from here for large ticket items. I know where to find the FedEx guy if there is a glitch.

5 weeks in my record. Package was forgotten in rural California.

Once I got working phone numbers today the post office personnel were fairly helpful. Lady at the facility that has held the package for nearly a week told me that they had a week long equipment breakdown that held up the registered packages.

I dunno...but I think the package will get delivered by Friday or Saturday.

Purchased a super nice 1917 SLQ, to be sent to my office. Tracking number showed coin delivered. I personally checked the mail the day of delivery. No coin. $400 down the tubes.

Go straight to your p.o. when they open and talk to a supervisor. Have them check with the carrier about the package. They have technology on tracked packages and take pics as it's being delivered and where.

Yep, Registered Mail is always on its own time as my post office tells me. I'm waiting on one that has been sitting in Melville, NY since 11/29. It was shipped from only a 2 hour drive away from me. Just the way it is...

And there are definitely some (maybe many) USPS employees that should not be in the customer service department. Sometimes though, I have to remind myself that they deal with a constant stream of "off the wall" or belligerent customers. The USPS is a gigantic organization with many constant moving parts - most of which are automated, so the employees can only go by what information they see in the system.

I think every type of mail is being delayed a little bit currently. I shipped a regular priority mail package on 11/20 and it hasn't been scanned since 11/25. Its a $1,900 item (fully insured thankfully), and might be the first package that the USPS has lost of mine out of many thousands shipped. I'd be willing to bet that after I refund the buyer, and USPS pays the claim. that the package magically reappears and gets delivered.

Time on the phone seemed to work. Package has departed the week long location.

I am surprised at all these issues with the USPS...The people at my P.O. are extremely helpful. Just went through an issue where a package (not a coin) was misrouted and 'disappeared'. The seller had information it was at my P.O.. I went there, showed them the email from the seller... The fellow at the counter went to the back, came back and said he could not find it.. .said he would check the computer, came back and said 'no information'...read the email again, said "Let me look again"... went back and three minutes later came out with the package. Was put on a shelf for 'no known address'... he found it by the senders address... strangely, the address it was directed to, does not even exist here. My point is, he went out of his way to help and all was resolved. This is not the only time I have had this type of service here. Cheers, RickO

There has always been something 'funny' with registered mail between Buffalo and Sarasota. Years ago, I had a 29K $ package take 24 days. It vanished after Atlanta and no one could tell me where it was. It did arrive though, and I have never had a registered package get lost.
It always seems to take an inordinate amount of time between me and NGC (are you allowed to say that on this board?) also.

I knowingly await the next thread on lost my package because I didn’t use registered or lost my money because I used PayPal friends.

It will come . I do not know why "some" sellers "insist" on PP F&F and worse why some buyers pay with PP F&F .
It is in violation of PP TOS and leaves the buyer vulnerable in case of a claim .
I would assume if you sent the payment as a "gift" for F&F , nothing is expected from the recipient . So you would have NO CLAIM .

I'm not so sure that it's a violation of their TOS anymore. Also when it comes to bullion the fee can be the difference between a profit and loss for the seller. If as a buyer you don't mind paying the convenience fee that's fine with me. Also it's a cost that you will most likely need to recover if you sell your purchased item at a future date.

I have heard of people using the gift option, filing a claim and getting refunded; presumably at the payee's expense.

Like many other things in life, there's risk involved. Ya pays yer money and ya takes yer chances. To each their own.
