Hmm... why is the MM so messed up?

1927-S. This happens on occaision to Buff mintmarks when they are close to the rim. The bottom flattens out from wear. making it indistinct. Could also be a little damage added in.

    Here's another one:

    This one is from 1925.

The wear, especially on the reverse, suggests a "fine" coin, perhaps very fine if one is feeling very generous. This is a common, worn coin.

Worn dies. It's an "S." The grading guide says FINE, it should sell as a FINE, a TPGS will probably grade it F-15, but IMO, the actual condition of the coin is VF. It does not matter. Fine is the best answer.

Agree. The coin is f-15, but with the new "overall wear" rules, any horn showing above the "notch" has a shot at VF-20.

This further complicates an already "complicated" coin to grade for numerous reasons.

Looks like an "S" to me. It's the "old style" Fine 15; new VF20. Considering the strike issues with this series, the horn NEVER should have been used as a grading point IMHO.
