That downtown Fremont Street was named in honor of explorer John Charles Frémont and located in the heart of the downtown casino corridor, Fremont Street is/ was the address for many famous casinos.
He was in politics and explorer, among many other things

It was John C. Fremont who literally put Las Vegas on the map. And because more than 20,000 copies of his map were immediately published and distributed to anybody who wanted one, Las Vegas became an important stop on the way West. Mormon colonists brought wagons to Utah over his routes, and the first railroad through the region would water steam engines at springs Fremont had first made known to the world.

@cmerlo1 We always stay at the golden nugget too. It’s just a fun place to stay.
@Hemispherical yes, it is an over date. Have no idea why but all of these have that.

To keep this coin related, I can confirm, what happens in Vegas, often stays in Vegas. I have left a lot of "coin" in Vegas, and much more paper.... Many times!

Seriously, if I had the money I've left in Vegas and other casinos around the country, I could have at least one #1 registry set. Maybe two.

As many times as I've been to Vegas, I have never been to live show nor have I ever seen the lights downtown, but I have seen many sights that I'll never forget.

Very interesting. I'm staying for a few days on Fremont St next month. I'll think of John Fremont as I wonder from casino to casino seeking fame and misfortune.

oops. Mormons settled in Utah, (part of the State of Deseret) before they came to Las Vegas valley. The Mormons traveled through Las Vegas, on the Mormon Trail, on their way to S. California. Yep, that's right. Many Mormons went on to settle in places other than Utah. They settled in NV, CA, UT, NM and Idaho as well. The Mormon state of Deseret was huge and all was Mormon settled.

It was a long time ago when I was last in downtown Las Vegas. I remember the Golden Nugget had a great buffet.

Odd that the "J.C." was struck right on the bust area. Don't believe I've ever seen any of the legend struck on the bust area of another coin.

I guess the name of the hotel I last stayed at is at least coin related - "Treasure Island" and most definitely they added a "resort fee" to the internet price that I had been quoted. At least one can get easy access to the free pirate show they put on each evening, weather allowing. FWIW I believe some internet sites now warn of any "resort fee" charge and even include it in their listing price.

Great token. Love the unashamed overdate.
You can count the rings on the 'stump surrounding the eagle' and determine the age of this piece !
