So far this is the best pic I can get. It looks to be repunched East between MM and torch.

Nice pickup. How does the rest of the dime look?

    It does look S/S east.

    ——-

What is the darkness at the opening in the bottom of the S?

Also what is the 2 separate notches, upper part of the inside top curve and upper part of the inside of the bottom?

I need to stop looking before pareidolia kicks-in.

It looks promising to me. The underlying mm appears to have been abraded away in the loops of the primary mm. They appear raised. I think the remnants of the underlying mm were left behind as they felt they were not pronounced enough to mess with, possibly worried it would have altered the primary mm?

    Yours looks like an RPM.

Certainly not the CONCEA RPM-001/FS-501 (Only one listed at Varietyvista) - Wexler's site has none listed, but the NGC page has this blurb:

A couple of RPM varieties are known for this issue, and one of these has a very dramatic spread between mintmark punchings.

So I'm not sure what the "Couple" are or where they are listed, and whether yours matches. Perhaps in Flynn's book?

Looks like that one goes into the New Discovery column :)

    Nice find.

Some coins are just plain "Interesting"

Neat find Jon... definitely looks like an RPM.... get it listed and have it slabbed as the discovery coin. Cheers, RickO

Thanks all. It is going out to Dr. Wiles soon with some others to get a CONECA number. I'm anxious to hear @Insider2 Take on this....as this is his line of work.

Paul, it is a PCGS66+ with some pretty toning. I will try to get the whole pic worked up soon. I just wanted to get the close up of the MM done last night.

You put too much faith in my opinion but thanks!

It looks legitimate in the image. I like the smaller protrusion from the top serif to rule out Machine Doubling.

As someone who has "discovered" previously unlisted RPMs (pause for self-horn-tooting), (second pause to apologize for said tooting),
I can say it is for sure an RPM.
I can't say whether it's listed or not. Unfortunately, the work that has been done cataloguing dime varieties is not as exhaustive or comprehensive as the same body of work for Lincoln Cents, Jefferson Nickels, or Morgan Dollars.
That's where DIMEMAN comes into play.
    Good work, @DIMEMAN !😎

This is very cool. How do you shoot the mintmark so close? A camera with a DS lens?

    (I know little about cameras).

    I use a Dino-lite.
