1934 Wash obv motto m.i.a.

Came across a 1934 Wash quarter with the obv motto almost nonexistent. The rim is still there. Rest of obv and rev do not exhibit similar detail loss. Could this be a die failure of the motto only? I include a sample normal wear 1934 for motto wear comparison only. Your thought are appreciated. Peace Roy

What you have appears to be a Light Motto 1934 with very uneven wear. Notice how thick the rims appear to be and it gets slightly wider to the left of the date? Something caused that part of the coin to wear away. Also that year in the Washington Series there were 3 different Motto types, a Light Motto, Medium Motto and Heavy Motto. The Light Motto was the weakest of the three, which is why it appears to have worn away and not leave much trace. Your second example image is a Medium Motto, much better defined.
Here's an image of the 3 different Motto types for 1934.

@jtlee321 Would they also be examples of die wear? Or the use of newer dies, or combination?
If you are referring to the different Motto types, they are a reworking or design modifications made to the master hubs. Die wear would have an effect all of the design elements. So the 3 different Motto types above were intentional alterations made to a master hub to help strengthen the appearance of the Motto.
Always learning. I needed a way to categorize this in the grey matter. Thanks!
Thanks jtlee321. I just read that variety info as you posted it. I'm always learning something on CU. Have a good night. Peace Roy

I agree with @jtlee321 .
It's a light motto which may have been poorly struck up to start with, that has received heavy wear.
Thanks @jtlee321 ... I too learned something here.... did not know about the three variant mottos.... Cheers, RickO
