I previewed this sale the previous Wednesday, and viewed items again today for determination of final absentee bid before auction start at 8:30am. I had to leave per work, and couldn't stay for whole auction.
There was a lot of low, to mid grade silver dollars going below melt at this sale. If I was a hard core stacker- I would have been in heaven!
I was interested in just 3 lots, and won all three. I purchased the highest graded Morgan, technical grade wise, which is an upgrade for my raw collection, and bought a nice 1871-S Half, as a why not, addition, and a beautiful semi- to full PL 1958 Washington Quarter. This particular quarter was listed as Proof...definitely not, has type B reverse, yet fields don't display full proof and has reed marks on Washington's head indicative of business strike.
This Morgan is a solid MS64 on obverse, maybe a plus too. Reverse is at around a MS66. Maybe Gem, or, close?
Didn't have this date- close to a VF. Higher mintage but still cool.
Definetly a business strike- listed in auction, and on 2x2 as proof. Semi-full PL fields. This one will be graded for PL @ NGC.

Wish I could find a local auction like that. I go to many and silver always goes way over melt, even on well circulated rolls of dimes and quarters. I keep waiting for the one you mention above. Looks like you did good too, congrats! I agree with your Morgan assessment I'd say 64+.

I hope you got them very, very cheap.
The 1886 Morgan has too many marks on the face and neck to get more than a 63. It may not even get that.
The 1871-S half is harshly cleaned.
The 1958 quarter is just an Unc. with too many marks. Proof-like fields can't save it.
It looks like you did pretty well!! That '58 Washington will look really nice in a Type B PL holder. I wish you the best of luck and hope NGC agrees.
I do not feel they will give it a type B holder ... but still a nice group of wins.
I would love to find Morgans going for below melt... The antique shop here thinks they are all $200-$300 coins....They are not!! Too bad about the cleaning on the half...I sure wish we had auctions like that here. The one we do have (every Friday evening), sometimes has coins, but just junk sets, nothing of value - well the auction house thinks they are... and a few buyers do...Cheers, RickO
