Redfield date?

SoldiSoldi Posts: 2,177 ✭✭✭✭✭

What do you think of my new coin?
The holder doesn't say Redfield, but is it?
I'm always confused on this Steve Ivy and Ron Howard's book say No.
So why the same holder?

My understanding was that the Redfield Hoard sold so well, they decided to continue their 'slab' and sales operation.

The Redfield Hoard was purchased by Paramount (and as I recall another investor). The coins were all graded by amature Graders and placed in Red, Black or Green cardboard, then encapsulated. When complete Paramount had the cardboard holders left over so then encapsulated their own coins, properly marking them as "Paramount's".

Paramount's carry about a 30% premium over raw coins of similar grade. CAC will not accept either for consideration.

    This is my understandinf/experience.

Actual Redfield coins in these holders should be considered raw for grading purposes, but often carry a premium of 4 times raw or more. I know NGC will grade them without cracking them out, I don't know about our host.

I just picked up a 1926-S Peace in a red Redfield holder that is in mint condition. The coin will meet or exceed the "MS65" designation Paramount put on it, which is rare in and of itself.

If it was a REDFIELD dollar it will be in a Redfield holder. If it was just some plain old dollar laying around (no provenance) then it will be in a Paramount holder.

Looks like a NGC tab on top. What did they grade it?

This comes up from time to time here on the forum....Explained above... But I do like the red background ....I like the green even more.... so much more attractive than basic black. Cheers, RickO

Clean cheek for a 64 - that hit on the left probably kept it from a 5. Definitely nice for the grade IMO.
