On the bay.

Short excerpt from seller: “Pretty light golden toning. Walton specimen, with a rich history. This is the coin that was “Lost for 40 yrs!”

Only five 1913 Liberty nickels were minted. Only three (3) can be privately owned: One (the “Norweb” specimen”) is owned by the Smithsonian. Another, (the “McDermott” specimen) is owned by another museum.”

It is interesting how the 5 coins have diverged in quality over 100+ years - I would think all 5 could have been pristine like the Elaisburg coin when Col. Green acquired them. Were the other 4 cleaned over the years due to "tarnish" or were they just mishandled? (such as depositing the Hawaii-FiveO nickel in a newspaper vending machine :D)

It has been up a few times since the sale of the Eliasberg coin.

I wonder who will buy this coin. It is not an auction so I think it will be hard to sell for the seller.
