A quick visit with Crazyhounddog today

As I am not far from where Joe is I was able to meet he for a bit today. I thought I would give a little update since he just does not have the time to post on here and given the situation, it may just be to hard to.

This will be pretty brief as Joe is pretty private.

One of first things to mention is he gratitude to the people on hear that have voiced concerns, thoughts and aid to him. While all he can do is send a quick thanks here and there, he wants to so much more. He simply can not believe the outpouring of support and I think he wishes he could convey so much more thanks to each and everyone.

His situation is overwhelming. You can tell all he can really do is think about things but there is so much to do and no where to start. They truly lost everything but the little they got in the cars. He does not know anyone in his town with a house still standing. To hear him talk about the rushed evacuation and the drive through "hellfire" as he calls it, will make your just cringe and be amazed at what they went through and that they are ok.

With all that Joe still seemed very much like the Joe last time I saw him in person. While there has to be some severely depressing moments going on, he does seem ok overall. He is very, very grateful for all the generosity and compassion being sent his way. They have very little right now, and I repeatedly ask what the need and he says they are fine, nothing they really need. He just wishes they could have their homes back.

Everyone just keep Joe in your thoughts and prayers for the road ahead for him and his family.

It was nice for you to visit and help out. Thanks for the update. I found your BST post and started the ball rolling, I hope the bids roll in strong come morning!

I did not realize you all were so close to my old stomping grounds. I have spent a bit of time in the Roseville, Orangevale, Folsom area over the years.

I live in the Arden area of Sacramento but have worked in Roseville and Folsom. To get out of the smoke my daughter and I spent yesterday in Folsom at the zoo, park, train ride Etc. Even about 100 miles from the fires and where Joes house was I can smell smoke in my house right now.

Most of us here (probably) have not met Joe, but I can see by the expressions of concern by all of the members show that our coin brother and sisterhood is a strong one.
It makes me feel warm in my shriveled up puny little heart that we can come together to help, even if a little bit.
The members who have started the ball rolling and getting this set up deserve our applause.
    I salute you.

I lived in Orangevale and Carmichael as a young kid. Both sets of grandparents live(d) in the Orangevale area. I would visit every summer and work on the house/property doing handyman type chores for Grandma. This is the first year I have not visited the area in a long while.

He need not worry about us here. We know he is Thankful but this is how we all should and many are when someone gets hardship. I am sure for him it is tough being on the other end. He is such a good man and its always harder to take then to give. Prayers for them to have peace of mind.

Words can not express how we all feel about this, but I'm sure Joe and his family feel the love we give. We just can't know how bad something like this is unless we have been through it ourselves.

Hang in there Joe my dear friend. <3

Let him know that this is not only just for him, it's for us too.
We all give, whether is a few bucks in the red kettle, or to red cross/salvation army or through our religious institutions when something like this happens. But when its someone we have a relationship with, (even just an on-line familiarity through anonymous user names), it's good for us too.
The feeling that we're doing something, albeit a tiny thing, in the face of so much devastation, is important. So often we stare helplessly when bad things happen. Here he is making this personal for each of us, and we are doing something.
And remind him that we are a group of coin collectors. That, by definition, means that we have excess money.

Selling things might be necessary however the thought I had was that if money is needed maybe one of the wealthy members of the group might want to "purchase" some or all of his collection with the understanding that he can buy it back. I'm not that guy but outright selling might not be necessary.

    Just a thought.
