Dumb question of the day, what is a Benson?

That's how PCGS notes a collection pedigree on their holders. Benson was a collector in the 40s whose collection remained intact for 50+ years and then sold in several auctions in the early 2000s. Some of his collection were 40s era rolls, which were broken up and slabbed... these coins like the one pictured above, which are not uncommon, come from those rolls. Other non roll coins, especially silver ones, attributed to the collection had been stored in Wayte Raymond albums and many were nicely toned. It's a pedigree, but for this type of coin not a terribly prestigious one necessarily.
Thank you!

Thanks for the information... I was going to ask the same question. Not being a pedigree collector, I had no idea what it signified. Cheers, RickO
The Benson collection was sold in multiple auctions in the early 2000s. The early silver coins had previously been mostly dipped, from the appearance of the coins, and then sat in albums for decades where many took on what most consider to be quite attractive blue and gold toning. This, obviously, would not be one of those early silver coins, but it was from the same collection.
