Not sure if this is an unlisted RPM or just a die chip. Another example might help determine which?

Interesting, any other die markers?
Collector, occasional seller
I have 12 1953-S Franklins. I have four with the “Low” S MM like your specimen. None has the anomaly. It is interesting that there appears to be an absence of die polishing around the “S”. Like the 1953-S FS-501 (RPM-001), most EDS and MDS RPM’s show some degree of heavy die polishing around the MM. The field and incused device in the die of the “error” first punch are abraded and the die is re-punched with a properly positioned MM. Evidence of this abrading and polishing does not show in your images. Judging from the hanger bolts and straps, it does not appear to be an LDS so at least some residual polishing would most likely be present. Sorry, this is not an answer, just observations.
There also seems to be debris in the lower curl of the S and at the upper opening of the S... So could be die chips... Does not look like an RPM ...Cheers, RickO
