Go ahead, Don or Heather, pull the plug.

The locked threads.
Banning 15 year members for incidental infractions.
Dumping the monumental work of Roger Burdette with not even an apology.

I have to triple think each post now to avoid the wrath of the demigods.

I don't roll that way.

I understand what you are posting. Many of us feel the same as the PM's are flying all over the place. However, Heather said that in this one case it was an unfortunate computer mistake by an employee. Rather than leave, let's see if it can be fixed. Hopefully, in six months, the screws will not be so tight.

Have you also noticed that the entire archive has been changed? Previously page 1 (most recent) to page 5000+ was near the top of the window. Now only 1 to 100 shows and nothing after that! The only was yo see earlier posts is to search a specific topic. Perhaps that same employee caused that by mistake too.

    WOW!
I was just going to PM you CS and I will be right behind you as far as the "plug" goes.
It's getting REALLY creepy in here AFAIC and I have the rope a swinging............

    Thank you Raybo.

Freezing my very innocuous CAC thread was the final straw. This is third grade theatrics.

The wise move would've been making one or two long-time trusted forum regulars the moderators.

That's what they have done on other forums and I'll bet it may have been a consideration. Nevertheless, we have an active and concerned moderator here now and I don't think anyone can fault her as she has to answer to a higher authority who can override her at any time.

Do you have any idea what it takes to moderate a site in a fair way? I do. Much of the time there is so much "traffic" that the ONLY way to find out a discussion is going off track is if it's reported.

DCW is correct. Let's cool it and let the dust settle. I'm going to try but I don't think I'll be able to stop commenting on this issue.

Yes I do. It's a PITA usually but that's where long time members being mods would have the advantage of familiarity with the forum and it's members. When a thread gets out of control here it's obvious and easy to spot.

Sometimes coming in as the new sheriff can be tough. If it seems a bit "overmanaged", just step away for a bit. Stuff happens.

The percentage of PCGS business represented by every pissed-off person blowing off steam here is pretty insignificant. This isn't a hill worth dying on, and there's an awful lot of value for each and every one of you in sticking around.

I've referred many collectors here over the years. Some have found the past hazing and hijinks off-putting. Others continue to use this board on a regular basis for the great resource that it is. I just hope that it can stay both fun AND informative.

It's very sad that so many respected and liked members feel this way. :'(

If people are expecting or even willing to get banned, why not instead take a little break and as @Insider2 said "let's cool it and let the dust settle."

Without all of you we will be left with nothing but people posting pictures of pocket change. :/

Worst of all, the collapse of the membership would mean that a certain troll succeeded in starting a chain reaction that ruined this forum.

After I'm banned (again) I can still come back to the forums and look at what you posted JBK...right?
I really don't need to post like some other people need to do, you know the people I'm talking about......the people that think they know more than anyone else.
I really like most of the people that post here, but others not so much.

I'm with CS, just put the bullet in my skull and be done with it. :#

I was PerryHall until a few days ago and then I was banned and my entire existence of many years here was wiped out including over 35,000 posts and thousands of PM's. Heather brought me back because many of you went to bat for me and I had to start over as a new forum member. I chose the name dirtygold. I implore my many friends here---please don't leave. Suggest that you just take a break for a few days. Your loss will be deeply felt and you will be greatly missed. I think Heather is a reasonable person and will ease up a bit once she gets to know us better. :)

I've noticed that some of the recently banned were able to come back as their old users with their posts intact. Others that were, and are still, banned still have their posts, while some others don't.

Is there any way to get your old posts back either by getting your old account back (like some recently banned and returned users) or having them reinstated to your banned account (like other recently banned but not returned users).

It seems a shame to lose 35,000 posts over a few bad ones. This goes doubly so for Roger who has posted a lot of original research and Mint documents that are otherwise unavailable online.

I wish that the rules would be applied equally to all members.

In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

I don't know if deleted posts can be brought back here but I'm at peace with PerryHall being dead. Sometimes it's a good thing to get a fresh start with a clean slate so to speak. If anyone needs to speak with PerryHall, I can channel him from beyond the grave. Halloween is over and I need to move along. :D

It seems like they cannot from this thread:

I guess that means you won't be using your old avatar? I was hoping to have some continuity ;)

I actually like the new turquois avatar. It really stands out. :D
Hopefully Heather can bring back Roger and perhaps he can repost some of his more important research over time. Roger was definitely a major asset here. I'm not sure how egregious his transgression was but I hope his banishment isn't permanent.

Banning members is too harsh and wiping out their past posts is over the top. I could understand shutting someone up for a week and deleting the offending remarks but this permanent stuff is scaring people enough to not share ideas and history. NOT GOOD!

From the posts in the thread below, wiping out all their past posts was an accident and won't be done in the future.

I am relatively new here, both to the forum and coin collecting. It is unfortunate to see this resource and gathering place diminished by conflict.

I have avoided these threads but would like to make a suggestion - can we try to find productive solutions?

For example, if there was an off-topic forum, it might allow members to have tangential conversations without worrying that the posts need to remain strictly coin related. This is clearly a community with relationships between members, and people are multi-dimensional. OT forums on other websites are well used.

Are there other changes to the forum that might benefit both the members and the host?

I ask the long time members to please stick around! There are a lot of newbies that have a lot to learn from you. And mods please use your power carefully.
