Playing with my camera and old friends.....

I busted out my old collection today cause I'm bored stiff and took these images. This time I went with really low light and fiddled a bit with the camera settings. I like the way some came out. Low light with bright coins tends to not only bring out the color but also shows the luster a bit better. At least that's my opinion.

This 14 is not an old Buff but fairly new. The lack of luster held this one back as far as the technical grade goes but the color is unusual so I bought it cheap. I also like it cause it's different.

    By "low light," do you mean low intensity, or low angle?
    I love that 1913; it would look great if you imaged it with a flashlight and a Box Brownie.

    Low intensity. Too much light always tends to wash out the color and luster. JMO

    Interesting. Usually bright lighting brings out color, sharpness, and depth of fields (with faster shutter speeds and smaller apertures).

    But as we've come to know, from sharing photography tips, there is no one right way. Do what works for you.

    The 13 looks best regarding clarity and sharpness, the other images are a tad outta focus. Thanks for sharing Joe.

    I find that the final results with lower light, with bright coins, tend to pick up the light and carries the luster better. The last pic, the 14, I used brighter lights as this one is not as lustrous. I did that to show the coin better.
    In general you’re absolutely right. Today I was playing around trying different things cause I was so bored.

    @crazyhounddog.... Truly remarkable photographs.... Your skills are amazing. Those are nice coins as well.... This is what you do when bored? Maybe that is why I do not do well in the picture area.... I am never bored.... just too many things to do... ;) Cheers, RickO

    Gorgeous images!! Every time I try to light one of my Buffalo's, I try to figure out how you can get so much of the luster to show through without getting glare from the plastic. What do you use for lights? Also, I'm insanely jealous about that 1913.. :)

    Thank you for the compliment on that 13. I’ve own this Buff more a long time.
    I use daylight bulbs for the reason they tend to cover the subject matter much better. Of course you can use what ever type of bulb ya want but I find these daylight bulbs work best for me.

    I get bored some days in my life. When that happens I tend to fall back on my hobbies. Imaging coins I find relaxing and interesting at the same time. It’s a hobby within a hobby. A lot of fun for me.
    I suppose your not old enough to experience true boredom :D I am.

    I don’t really get bored too often as I too have a few hobbies I enjoy. At the present time, when I did this thread, I’m having a kitchen remodeling going on I’m having done for my wife. I’m not comfortable leaving my house when I have contractors in it, as you might imagine. So as a result I kinda get kinda bored from time to time stuck here at the homestead, especially without a kitchen :D Not that I eat a bunch of food but I do like to cook, sometimes.
    Yes like you I love to go shooting. I have a case of 1000 rounds and my 45 Kimber calling my name. It’s a Raptor 2. It’s a sweet, SWEET gun :)
