I enjoy reading everyone’s show reports, so here is my attempt at it.

I traveled to the Silver Dollar and Rare Coin Expo on a very rainy day in St. Charles MIssouri Thursday, which is right outside St. Louis. I arrived about 2 hours after the show opened Thursday which was a little before 12:00.
I usually do a quick scan though a show to see if anything catches my eye. About halfway through I saw a coin I was looking for in a lower graded and purchased it. I continued until I walked the entire floor and didn’t really see much else that I needed.
I hadn’t had lunch, so i grabbed a sub-par burger at the concession stand and sat with Michael White from ANACS. I had brought about a dozen lower grade Vams I wanted to submit. He told me about the show special (10 coins for $109 and free return shipping) with additional coins being $12 each. I told him I would see him before I left.
I returned to searching the show. There was not much of a crowd at all. Mainly dealers were talking/looking through each other’s inventory. I made my way in where I could to look through boxes or I just stood there until they asked me if I was looking for anything :) I never want to butt in or interrupt anyone, but I will stand around like the guy at the office that nobody wants to talk to until someone achknowledges me.
I looked through 4 or 5 dealers inventory that I have done business with in the past and didn’t really find anything that was for me. I stopped by a large dealer I see on eBay and looked to see what they had. Some amazing coins, but at premium prices. I priced a could rare date Morgan’s, but they wanted 10% over what I had recently sold similar coins for so I passed. I should explain that I have recently decided I just need to specialize in a small sector or certain coins that I am good at. I got to a point where I was not happy having bulk Or the good with the bad, which I did for a long time.
I had about a hour left before I was leaving and was disappointed that I could not find more than one coin. I switched to sell mode. I had packed about 12 GSA’s and a small box of slabs. I sold all but 1 GSA and sold 4 or 5 graded CC dollars. I then looked around a little more, priced a few coins, made a offer on a national bank note, but couldn’t come together on a price on anything.
I was halfway out the door and remembered ANACS. I went back over to the ANACS table, Michael had everything ready and we filled out the order form. It was a great expirience, Michael is top notch! He made it flawless and gave me a great deal in addition to the show special and gave me a sample slab. I have never submitted to ANACS, will definitely give them consideration in the future. The price for grading the circulated Morgan’s that I wanted attributed and slabbed was unbeatable!
So all in all, I was a little disappointed with not buying any inventory, but I sold some pieces and had a great ANACS first expirience.

Thank you! Yes, they just work better for me. I don’t know if specialize is the right word, maybe focus on Morgan’s explains it better.

Thanks for the report, glad you at least found something to buy at the show!

I'm guessing that you've chosen to specialize in Morgans?

    Nice show report.
I would think that the ANACS deal at 10/109 doesn't include variety attribution, does it ?
    That would be some deal.....

You wouldn’t think, but the ANACS rep must have some discretion...because it was in the range of "some deal" as you would say.

I don’t think it’s unreasonable that a dealer is asking 10% more not really sure what you would expect to pay? After all even a small traveling dealer a show will cost $2,500 to set up at between table, travel, hotel, etc

I don’t think it’s unreasonable for them either. It is however unreasonable for me to pay it...so I didn’t.

Good report.... Interesting that so many dealers complain that the market is shrinking etc., etc., - and yet, the prices seem to stay high....Yes, it does cost $$ to set up at shows, however, it is a complete loss if nothing is sold. Seems the market is not as bad as some are saying.... much like midwest farmers...never a good year ;) Cheers, RickO
