1985 Cent clash

Namvet69Namvet69 Posts: 9,270 ✭✭✭✭✭

Checking lincolns and on the rev I found a rectangular clash strike that runs from the top of the N and ends in line with the bottom of the right leg of the N and the back of the E. Rest of the rev is not remarkable. Peace Roy

A clash would show the design from the other side.

Very interesting anomaly. Any other odd effects obv or rev?

Nope, nothing else. That's why I posted it. It has the width and length of either letter. Peace Roy

Just a theory.... and not a good one.... However, it appears that half of the leg of the N was sheared and 'struck through'... then lost from the coin.... Very strange...I have not seen that anomaly before ... Maybe @Insider2 or @CaptHenway or @FredWeinberg can give us some information. Cheers, RickO

Ricko, Thanks for your opinion. That's why I imaged it in several directions. Have a good day. Peace Roy

To help, I'd like to see a photo of the
complete reverse and obverse of the
cent, not just the blow-up area.

It appears to be a "dropped letter" error. Junk and a piece of metal accumulated in the N, dropped off, and got struck into the coin. I've seen cents with a stray letter from LIBERTY or the motto floating in the fields. PM Fred Weinberg.

  • Earlier today, I posted a 1991-D Quarter (reverse) with the same type of lines under the wing I've not seen any errors of that type for this date and mint mark.
