I was set up at the show taking submissions and giving free opinions on grade and authenticity. Saved one dealer some money when he tried to submit a Type 3 gold dollar he thought was an MS-64+. It was part of a gold deal and he figured its cost at $200. LOL. It's not Christmas yet. The coin was a struck counterfeit we first saw in the mid-1970's. At the time it was a very deceptive piece. Due to its quality, I always suspected this came from the "Omega" crew as their it a tiny "nick" inside the "D" of "United" on all the coins and it is from the same time period with "wormy tool marks." He returned the coin to the seller.
Sorry, got off subject. The first few hours of the show it was packed. I talked with several dealers who were as happy with the show as I was. As for stamps being dead. I don't believe it. Most coin shows look like ghost towns compared with the stamp or gun shows in FL. FUN is the exception.
Thanks for posting the show report, and glad to hear you are getting the (collecting) but again!
If I'm ever on that side of the state when one of the shows is going on, I'll have to check it out. There was a dealer that used to come to Melbourne years ago from Brandon that I did a fair amount of business with that I lost track of - hoping he's still around.
Thanks for the report....Glad your interest has come back...I do like small coin shows... always good conversation and usually not rushed or super crowded. Cheers, RickO
