Your opinion---1996-W Dime

Found this golden luster beauty in a 96 Mint Set. Grade it!! The line seen by the bottom of the hair is in the cellophane, not the coin. It is virtually mark-free.

No idea on grade, but I like these. I remember when they were sent with the Mint Sets as a bonus.
Nice example!
I remember buying one of these in the Mint cello for $1 in the early 2000s.
An authorized PCGS dealer, and a contributor to the Red Book.
What is the black dot I see on the cheek? If that's not permanent it's probably ok to have graded. I put one (raw) into an auction once and had the auctioneer note it as "The Rarest Roosevelt". It sold for like $60.
I just checked under magnification, it is a small blemish from the die. Its color is the same gold luster as the rest of the coin, the light from the cellophane must have cast a bit of shadow.
Me thinks you have at least a 67. I always liked this coin, the one and only "W" in the series. It will never be rare, but will always have value.

Gotta grade this stuff really tough. I would say 66 with a strong chance at full bands. Bands are tough to tell with that image.
If these didn't come so nice it would be a shoe-in 67.

Beautiful golden toned 66
Nice dime... 66 for sure....better pictures could go either way.... I have at least one, maybe two in cello...and at least one slabbed...I got excited after the '95W ASE...
However, it did not work out the same way.... Cheers, RickO
Very nice but a lot of them around but it's your $$$ if you need to put it in a holder it's up to you if you want to spend the $$$. If it was me I would wait for my free submission when I renew or and quarterly special where you grade one get one free. That's just me dumb Type2 thinking, Nice coin.
Hoard the keys.
I like it, and I'm finding a mintage of 1,457,000 is this correct ?
Steve
I have not decided whether to slab it or not, I have been doing a lot of housecleaning concerning my collection, and was considering selling the mint set intact, but I am not sure yet. Yes the mintage is correct.

Spend the mint set, keep the dime. Just kidding (or maybe not?).
It is a neat dime being the only W minted one. I have several I bought from the mint and went through the dilemma a number years back on whether to slab one. I determined that unless it was in the top grade it was not worth it to me and I did not think my dimes would make the grade needed.
With 1.5 million, all sent to collectors, they are not rare. I just looked and see there are quite a few 68s graded and that is where the value is currently.
I originally bought 10 sets from the mint in 1996...sold every one of them. Picked up a PCGS MS67FB for my U.S. Type Set before I sold it and picked up a 1982 No P Strong PCGS MS66.
I would give the OP 96-W a MS66...not sure that I would submit it for grading though...I would buy one that is already ensconced in PCGS plastic.
