Lincoln Penny Question

WALLEWALLE Posts: 269 ✭✭✭✭

Sorry about the picture, I can't get a clear shot of it. My question is whats going on with the face of the coin, looks like a steel cent in the center. I found this going through some rolls from the bank. Thanks

What it LOOKS like, is an incomplete copper coating on a Zinc Cent. What it IS, and why it is like that would be up to someone with more smarts than me.

Some kind of post Minting damage. Notice how the rim protected some of the coin from being abraded?

There is nothing wrong with the back. When I found it thought maybe it was a error.

That is the zinc core exposed... not sure if the copper plating was buffed off or how it was exposed.... but that is what it looks like under the copper plating. Cheers, RickO
