Coin photo question, why does it look liquid?

I have seen this photo and many others from the same seller. Are these photos enhanced or filtered? Why does surface look almost flawless / sandblasted / solid mercury / liquid? It seems like it has good clarity at the same time as being out of focus.

IDK, I don't think it's an accurate depiction of the coin and I would pass on it

At best, it's a slightly out of focus shot saved with a high amount of compression. At worst, it's a significantly doctored photo. Either way, it's not something I would use to judge the quality of the coin.

I think it's sexy -- as proof fields should be in some pix. But this one shimmers a bit much...

Yes watery - and so are my eyes! Ouch! Something definitely amiss. For me these images actually are painful to look at.

The cloudy slightly out of focus image makes for a nice picture, but hides a multitude of sins. One sin is the fact that it tries to hide or diminish the fact that the coin is not Full Steps.

It would also hide the small nicks or chips from view.

    Shame Shame!

I have no idea how it was done... and likely the image has been doctored.... I must say though, it sure makes the coin look nice....That obverse is a nice picture...Cheers, RickO

Has that zinc cent reprocessed look. There are many Photoshop effects that can alter any objects surface. Peace Roy

No way to grade from images like these. Intentionally done imo to cover up defects. This dealer uses the "Liquify"
imaging on many of his listings. Exhibit A:

Yes I passed on his entire broken up album set. Most of it has cycled a week or two unsold. Some looked like they might be nice but the photos are all too weird.
I figured it was a filter or photoshop job, I do not know how to do that stuff so I am unaware how to identity it.

Over 3,000 items sold with 100% positive feedback. Seems like the seller specializes in nickels :/:o

I suspect it has to do with software related to the camera. Difficult to tell if rev of 38 or rev of 40. Impossible to see any varieties...

Adaptive blurring filter, such as Photoshop's "Smart Blur." Stronger blurring is applied to pixels that are not detected as being edges in the image, while almost no blurring is applied to edges.

A_R, he's been doing this for a while. Out of focus is out of focus, no matter how sexy you try to make it look. It's also interesting there have been no, "...I've bought from them before, no complaints ..." responses to your post.

If we were all the same, the world would be an incredibly boring place.
