Interesting and I think he has done similar 'monetary' experiments as well. I think all had similar outcomes regarding the knowledge of 'money.'

The folks who responded with an immediate "no thanks" are not surprising. Being approached by a person on the street giving away something is considered annoying to many people, so the message or offer is not heard.

The 'experiment' also underscores the lack of trust people have in strangers on the street (or just others in general). I bet some were following the 'TANSTAAFL' principle (there ain't no such thing as a free lunch) and thinking there was some sort of 'catch' with the offer.

Those who just took the Snickers bars, I guess were trusting and just ignorant of the value of the tiny gold coin. Then again, how many 'average' citizens know the value of precious metals? They took something whose value was known to them.

I wonder if any people chose a gold coin and were not included.

What was the gold coin made out of?

If you notice, he started with a little bag of them, but ended with just one in his hand!!!!!!!! :) However, he did start out with a full box of Snicker bars!

The average American has no concept of the precious metals market, nor do they even know that the United States ever had any coins minted in Gold. Just randomly ask someone if they have ever even heard of a Double Eagle (come to think of it, it may be funny to hear what they think it means). This may be blasphemy to say here (no disagree button :D ), but it is just not and doesn't need to be apart of most peoples lives. To them it is the equivalent of asking them do they want a Snickers bar they can enjoy or a Chuck E Cheese token.

That said, I'm willing to bet he tries to pick people he feels will say no. To astrorat's point, those who say yes to the bullion are left out because where is the fun in that.

I'm of the thought that people presented with such are wondering what is the catch if they take the gold coin?

This is why you should not feel guilty about wealth/money or the lack of others. Any one of these folks could have taken the gold and handed it over to any cause of there choice.

I bet he lost a few of the coins making this video... but that's a small price to pay for going viral

I've seen him do this with silver eagles as well. He gets a taker every now and again, but not often.

Even at 'face value' you could by 2 or 3 snickers bars with the gold.

I have seen that one before... and several of his other videos.... So many people are unaware of what the coin is, and others think it is a scam....of course, some just want a piece of candy. :D Cheers, RickO
