    My sincere condolences.

"The NCNA Board of Directors is saddened to learn that Barry Ciociola, our good friend and past president, succumbed to his battle with cancer on Wednesday October 17.
As many of you had heard, Barry was was diagnosed in early August and made the decision to fight it with aggressive treatments at the hospital in Chapel Hill.

Those that knew Barry, know what a fighter he really was in life, as he touched so many of our lives in the numismatic community.
We look to share details for funeral/memorial service arrangements soon, and will be looking for ways in which to remember Barry and his many contributions to the hobby that we all love.

The family has also expressed many thanks to everyone for their show of support and love via cards, visits, and prayers over the last two months. Please keep Barry's family in your prayers as they go through this time of personal loss and grief."

I didn't know Barry but those that did spoke well of him. Our Numismatic family has had another leaf fall off our tree.

    Rest well, Barry.

I have a short story to tell about Barry. He was a great guy, and I loved looking over his inventory.
Years ago at an NC show, I looked thru his folders of single proof coins, hoping for cameos or the stray variety. Didn't find any cameos or monster varieties, but did find a few varieties that people would pay extra for like the "Superbird" 1952 quarter. Rather than cherrypick him, I told him what I had found - he was most appreciative. Next thing I know, he has figured out the variety game. Good for him.

I will miss Barry, he was a fixture around here.

Sad news. Condolences to his family and friends.

I feared this news after hearing about his condition back in August at BRNA. I did quite a few shows with Barry in attendance and one that he organized, years ago in Gatlinburg. I don't know his son personally--we met one time briefly in Salem, Virginia--except that we both worked at Heritage Auctions before Brad (?) went to Stack's. My condolences to Barry's family. He was a good man, a fair guy both buying and selling, and a lot of fun to talk to and be around.

    Kind regards,

    George
