Just got up this morning and I check my Twitter feed after getting going. This got my attention

New youth products will be heading your way in 2019! Check out the unveiling of the Mighty Minters™️ during today's #NumiForum.

I checked the Mint page for a Press Release but no news there. I'm afraid they are going the way of Perth and Canada. This will take some research. Back with the scoop after I eat my Wheaties.

Why is the peacock tail green? Are they subliminally promoting or supporting Canada's recent mistake? Just doesn't look right. :s

Maybe it's just packaging and not actual color enhanced and cartoon-ified coins. Information is hard to find since this was just announced hours ago.

Words cannot convey any comment right now.

  • It appears to just be some cartoon characters to help get kids interested. All the coins they are standing by look normal. I'm hoping the thing in the middle is just a logo, and not a coin they plan to make. Since the characters extend beyond the circle, I'm guessing that's the case.

It's probably just packaging. If you look at the coins in the photo, they are unaltered, so I'll bet we'll see some kid oriented folders somewhat similar to the Birth and Congratulations sets. Maybe "introduction to coins" stuff.

(For laughs, they do have one. It's brand new for 2014! And it's still on sale. They've sold 10,323 so far, with a product limit of 45K. Coin Discovery Set — An Introduction to Coin Collecting (YC1))

They've already had kid orientated stuff on their website. The mascots they're currently using are animals, they're probably just making a marketing decision to go to kid images instead.

    Branding & marketing......

Why the mint should even think about this is beyond me. Just do your mandated jobs!

    That's not a peacock. It's Lady Gaga.

    @tonedgold .... Welcome aboard....
As to the OP...it looks as if the Mint is trying to recruit young collectors.. not a bad idea... Cheers, RickO

Well, I was half right and half wrong. From Coin World:

    Youth initiatives

Among the three new youth-oriented products for 2019 is a product packaged in the shape of a rocket ship, that will launch in February 2019, one of three new youth-oriented products for 2019. The Mint’s Kara Murphy Haire, who oversees youth-oriented marketing, said that kids love dinosaurs and space, so the space set has a Native American dollar, Kennedy half dollar and an unidentified quarter dollar; a second product is an Explore and Discover set containing a magnifying glass with a cent planchet that kids can remove and handle; and a third kids-oriented, character-based program includes Eli (a fox) and Timmy (a boy), and has been presented to focus group and will be introduced at shows.

So the OP in question, it is just packaging.

But that doesn't mean the Mint isn't considering colorized coins. See this thread:

Are you sure the peacock isn't the sixth offspring of the NBC logo?

I agree, this will just be a packaging thing. The Mighty Minters will be promoting mint sets and maybe proof sets.....could a rarity be placed inside each one?????

Looking closely at these cartoon figures, you have a group of worldly kids and two cartoon animals. Should we have a contest naming them??? How about Blubell the Bird and IntelliFox? Will they have super coin powers? Will there be a comic book or graphic novel?? What about the Mighty Minters Movie? A two hour saga about a search for a rare cent that takes you to every corner of the world.

New packaging BUT the same tired old sheet in the packages?

    Won't work.

It's time to unload some more coins. The future is going to be a lot less than yesterday.
