1965 proof Kennedy half

I know there wasn’t any proofs made in 65 but I think I found one anyways. Amazing mirror finish with a deep cam frost. What do you think?

Here, you want a couple hundred more:

Not a proof but it is a Special Mint Set (SMS) piece. Looks like it could be cameo.
Here is a deep cameo for comparison.

could have had this one for $11

Do I have to say it:
NOT a proof. At best, a proof-like SMS coin. At worst, Chinese magic.
None of those have the deep frosted look or the mirror finish as much in my opinion. This one actually looks like a proof

Q.E.D.
This is accurate to what I found.
If you can't trust a @Cameonut for an opinion on a cameo, who can you?
This one on eBay is like what I found.

I know it’s not a proof they didn’t make proof coins in 65 sorry if I didn’t express that. I thought I did. Either way funny comment lol.
Where is that disagree button...

1) No proofs minted
2) proof-like, cameos from SMS are known
Mystery solved.
No big deal, but your exact words were "I think I found one anyway"
If it does go deep cameo, still a good find!
I agree 100 percent. My point of this post was just to show what I found. I know it’s not a proof. I personally have never seen in person with the deep cameo and proof like mirror finish. So I am personally excited. I know it’s an SMS coin because I pulled it from an SMS set.
Not a proof. None were minted. End of story.
0_o ?!?! Sorry figure of speech
Does no one read on this forum and just go straight to being confrontational? I never said it was a proof coin. My statement “but I think I found one” was a figure of speech. What the hell is wrong with people. I live by the golden rule from Bambi. Wise advise from a rabbit. Always on this forum.
It might have something to do with the thread title "1965 Proof Kennedy". Most true collectors know that no proofs were minted that year - thus the blow back from a few.
But you do have an SMS coin - and it is 40% silver. Thanks for posting it.

Thank you! I pulled it from an SMS set.
You need to consider your track record and your rather odd "figure of speech". "1965 Proof Kennedy - I think I found one" is NOT a figure of speech. It is a simple misstatement akin to all the rare errors and new doubled dies that have been found recently on this Forum.
A proof by any other name...
Fair enough.
And by the way, whatever you call it, that is a great coin.
I agree, it is a nice coin especially to find raw in a SMS.
These are expensive coins in high grade deep cameo. You likely wont find one in a set, most are picked over. Your gonna need at least a thousand bucks for one without too many scrapes and marks.
Do you have a pic of the reverse? If it has cameo contrast as well, could be worth a couple bills.
Always nice to find attractive specimens in special mint sets.
I wouldn't put any stock in the price of that ebay BIN listing you posted.

Some SMS sets can be quite proof like and most are not, yours is very nice
Steve
OP: your coin looks superior to most 1965 SMS examples.
What does the reverse look like?
Cameo as well?
The pic of the obverse looks CAM...not enough frost to go DCAM.
That's a nice find, and I think that it's pretty clear to you already that it is a cameo SMS coin.
A quick rinse and a submission to our host, you may have a winner.

Nice SMS CAM...... No idea what the reverse looks like... If the same, self slab and save it. Cheers, RickO
Very nice looking coin, won't make DCAM, but from the obverse it looks like a CAM.
Here's my 67 CAM

I understand what you're saying. SMS coins were specially prepared and can be understandably called "Proof Like".
There are some outstanding examples and yours qualifies as a "upper crust" coin for sure.

I got my coins back. I ended up with 2 not bad for around 2.00 each.
Thx for posting the results. Those are two nice looking coins.
Nicely done!
Excellent! Thanks for the follow up!

@quarinteen Thanks for the update. And you got the Cameo.
UMMM...........1965 CAM.

67 Grade, not date buddy.
Grading cost $2.00 each? How'd that deal pop up?
