I don't hear this all that often but one of the main reasons that I love this hobby is the following

The thrill of the hunt (we all know and experience and discuss this )
The art of the deal (making it work the hard way thru a mutually beneficial trade, trade and cash etc)
Receiving the package (who doesn't like to receive gifts and tearing the box open, we are really still kids at heart)
Possession of the item....oodling it for hours over days, weeks ...... who knows how long, it just depends on what it is
Putting it away only to be looked at again, and snapping a photo and putting it on the big screen to doodle some more
Posting it here and getting the attention it/you deserve, thats why we are here right!:)

Show us what challenged you/moved you....had an impact on you ! I am hoping to soon;)

All the things you just said, verbatim. Especially hunting varieties from bad eBay photos, opening the package and VICTORY a Pcgs recognized variety for normal common cost.
When I put in the time, and money I pull 3-10 cherrypickers varieties a month.
I’ve been getting into Franklins lately and the Bugs bunny clash types. I just re-purchased my second copy of cherrypickers volume 2.

Owning and completing a set. Nothing like it for me knowing that I completed a set from scratch 1-2 coins at a time.

    Later, Paul.

Totally agree with all of the above, but I also enjoy the camaraderie !!! :)

All good points that define a 'collector'...and that goes for collecting of many different things. I would also add the historical aspect - relating the coin to the period of history, what was happening, who was making it happen, was this coin a part of 'that' happening?....Cheers, RickO

All great reasons for coin collecting and very enlightening. My major reason is the historical value. As a Morgan collector I often wonder what card games, gambling tables and who that circulated (G) 1878 CC came across.

Good reasons, all. I too like the historical part - specifically wondering where a coin has been, who held it, how often it circulated, etc. Questions that are generally unanswerable, but I enjoy the thought process nonetheless.

If we were all the same, the world would be an incredibly boring place.

    All of the above.

I would add, one of my favorite aspects is when you buy what you think is a beautiful coin and then when you get the coin in hand it blows your hair back even more. Better than that is when you get the coin at what you feel is a fair market price (not a dealer's high retail).
