THIS MUST BE A PATTERN SHIELD NICKEL ON CENT. tell me your thoughts.

Here’s a pic of mine . I found this article that I will post here as well. There’s zero nickel showing on my coin. Pure brown. Before I realized what it was I tried cleaning it too bc it had some mold. No matter how much I cleaned it... no silver color showed through. This lead me to believe it was on the wrong Planchet. Which lead me to this article online. It’s not unbelievable....it’s watchbelievable.

Metal detecting coin. Damage
BHNC #203
The metal used to strike nickels is actually 75% copper, 25% nickel. Whilst nickel is rather impervious to corrosion, eventually the copper is and the coin corrodes and looks more the copper 'tis.

A "dug" nickel when cleaned with a product like Kaboom will show copper on the areas where surface corrosion developed. This coin looks like it may have been cleaned using that type of treatment.
Interesting, and the explanations above are likely.... However, if there is still a question in your mind, send it for authentication. That way you will have an expert evaluation and conclusion. Cheers, RickO
