Poor kid will probably hear about this his whole life.

My dog shredded $17 a few years ago when she was still a puppy. My wife had the $ in her purse and the dog got into the purse found the cash and chewed it up. Teller at the bank thought it was funny until I gave the chewed up notes to her in my deposit.

Reminds of what could have happened to my sister in law....

In brief, my brother in law scratched a million dollar winning lottery ticket from a $20 scratch ticket. He gave the ticket to their then 8 or so year old son to bring upstairs to show his mom. My sister in law told him that it was not a funny game and to stop. My brother in law then went up, explained that it was real - something that she could tell based on his genuine excitement.

I've always wondered what was to stop my their son from just tearing up the ticket when his mom said it was not real. It's just beyond comprehension to me that his dad actually handed an 8 yo a $1M winning ticket.

If you've seen the docs on the BEP, if the family brings the remains to a facility, they'll try to piece together the bills to refund the family.

If the shredder was a cross-cut, it might be impossible, but...

Found a video on it! The internet is such a scary place.... :D

Child proofing your house is a MUST if you have children in the toddler range. The parents are lucky the child didn't shred his fingers.

My shredder will turn itself off if you put a hand close to it. 'Course the only thing close to a toddler around here is me....

Oy. For the rest of his life, the nickname "Shredder". Almost too much to bear.

On the other hand, as it were, it could have been "Stubby". The parents are lucky.

That is a real shame.... I do not know the details... but shredders are usually a tad noisy.... and toddlers get into all sorts of trouble.....even when quiet. So, it seems that someone may have been napping.... Cheers, RickO

Morons. A shredder is a dangerous device for a 2 year old to use or have access to.

...... but leaving him access to $1200 is OK?

    Um, no. Is that implied?

Sounds like a lot of brothers in law.

The parents should be extremely grateful that nothing harmful happened to their child!! Money is nothing compared to the safety of a child.

Reminds me of a childhood story. Happened in the mid-60's, long before shredders.

Let's face it, little kids will copy what they see their parents do. In this case, Markie Miller, the 5 year old next door, decided that the family car needed a fill up. So he took the garden hose and filled daddy's gas tank right there in the driveway. Problem was he didn't know when to shut the hose off so the gas came spewing out from the filler and all over the place. The driveway was pitched toward our lawn so it killed a large portion of the grass in our front yard.

Needless to say, all heck broke loose next door and we didn't see Markie for a long time. Even wondered if he was still alive.

Daddy had to have the car towed as the tank was full of water. No happy campers in the Miller household.....

My first thought as well. Who gives a damn about a grand that kid could have lost his hand.

A coworker of mine spent hours taping about a dozen notes together after a similar incident.
The teller accepted them with little interest in the story behind it.

At my job, we sort of sit around and wait for something to happen.
Bordom is the biggest problem and my workmate liked puzzles of any kind.
It took him weeks to do & I think he made fifty bucks on the deal.

My 3 year old daughter tore up a $100 bill in her birthday card.

I taped it back together and the bank took it.
