.......until today when it found a home with me.
Interesting change find. I have come across many 1939 Philly nickels in change over the past 50+ years. This is the first 1939 S nickel I have gound.

Looks a little to nice to have been actively circulating for 8 decades. Must have found a a hiding place for most of that time.

Nice find!! One of the perks of living in the Pacific Northwest is we see lot's of S and D mint coins in circulation around here.
Even back in the day ( 1960's ) that was a tough one to find in circulation around here.

I still find '39-S coins in roll searches - here on the east coast. The old codgers have served their country well - of course they were made during the Greatest Generation.
I have only found 1 or 2 39-S in almost 50 years if looking.

Great find.... old coin and an S mint.... obviously more common on the west coast... though they occasionally turn up in the east...Cheers, RickO
Looks like it was removed from a collection or accumulation and spent. Seven decades of circulation would have worn that coin down more...still it probably stayed close to home all of this time.

Nice rare find in circulation! I had received a 1939-s back in change too. It was last year from the local Dollar General. Couldn't believe it- posted mine as well on forum.
