Does this excerpt refer to 1836 silver dollars ? - Ahhhh, nope, half-dimes.

"July 3, 1837
To:
R.M. Patterson, Director of the Mint
(First paragraph concerns the Dahlonega Mint assayer.)
….The specimens of coin transmitted by you are considered very beautiful, and one dollar has been deposited to the credit of the Treasurer of the U. States in the Bank of the Metropolis as a payment made by the Treasurer of the Mint for which that officer will receive a credit on his next account.

Good question.
Says “specimens” plural but they are only worth one dollar, so maybe two half dollars?
When were the Seated Dimes and Half Dimes first struck?
A letter of July 28 refers back to this one of July 3 and says in part "...I thank you for the very beautiful specimens of half-dimes which it contained and for which I will settle when we meet."
A very short mystery story.....but part of research.

1836D half dimes?
Philadelphia half dimes
I was wondering if there was some event going on on July 4th that some of these might have been intended for, but the only thing I could come up with for July 4, 1837 was the dedication of the Lexington Battle Monument way up in Massachusetts.
Some interesting documents lately Roger... Thanks.... Cheers, RickO
