So hows ur Big Mac coin(s) doin'?

StoogeStooge Posts: 4,673 ✭✭✭✭✭

I still have only 1 and noticed that the fanfare around here has seriously died. I also see that prices are coming down quite a bit. Maybe a good time to pick up the rest of the coins needed.
So has PCGS graded any of these?

Later, Paul.

Go for a full set. They are really done well.

I thought a similar thing about Cheerios dollars. ....said there's no way I'm paying $55.00 for one on ebay.
One of 'best' decisions I ever made, since I usually hoard multiples.

Back in 1999 I got a gold Yoda Mountain Dew can In a 12-pack box worth $20 if you sent the empty can in to Pepsi. I checked on eBay and they were going for about $55. I decided to save it instead of selling it, thinking it would be worth more and more as the years went by.

It now fetches about $3 if you can find a bidder.

Take your profit now. In 10 years they are likely to be in the bargain bin with the other cheap bronze medals.

I still have my set plus one extra. I anticipated, as we all did, the prices will go down but didn't think the prices, at their peak, were worth selling as I only have the one set and think it is nice to have.

If you put an actual big mac and a big mac coin on your water heater, which will get the better toning?

  • ashelandasheland Posts: 23,765 ✭✭✭✭✭

I had a full set from day 1 and then three extras the following week. I redeemed my pocket piece. :D
The other two my friend sold on ebay for me. They brought $22 I believe.

I just have the original set now and I'm keeping that.

I've eaten so many Big Macs that the manager at the McD;s asked me to quit asking about them.

At least it's worth the value of a big mac until December 31. After that, who knows.

Funny you should ask. Lately I've been considering flipping most of my 16 for Big Macs before they're TOTALLY worthless. I never did get any #4's ( 98 - 08 ). Maybe I'll find a couple of those and keep a few complete Sets?

You may have mine to complete at least a set.

Wow is it possible? An almost forgotten quest coming to an end? I'd be honored to receive a #4 Big Mac Token from you, Miss Paradise. And to express my appreciation I'd like to send you a very limited and scarce token I have. I won't tell you what it is but I'll give you a hint - its a representation of a proposed Coin Design that wasn't accepted .The PC Police took it away before too many saw it. I have multiples, so you won't be taking my only one.

    👍

They expire on Dec 31'st. Turns out that the actual Big Mac will have a longer shelf life than the token!

Few realize that the current tokens were struck on 50-year old prototype Big Macs that were discovered in the underground vault of company founder Ray Kroc's home. At the time, the sandwich was a copy of Hot Shoppes' "Mighty Mo" burger and McDonalds had planned to name it the "Mighty Mac" to swipe some name recognition from Hot Shoppes. But J W Marriott objected and threatened to sue for "all the special sauce in your pants and drown you in root beer floats" if McDonald's didn't change the name. Several thousand boxes and burgers had already been made, so Kroc renamed it "Big Mac" and had the burgers put in his basement vault next to his bags of silver dollars bought from some guy named Redfield --- and "the rest is history" or maybe a footnote to an endnote. :)
