Someone asked about my Avatar
My avatar pic is my youngest daughter Megan when she was about 3. She was born 2.5 months premature, weighed under 3lbs. She was diagnosed with cerebral palsy and the doctors told us all the things she would probably never be able to do. Fortunately Megan didn't listen.
She is a senior in high school, varsity track 3 years, and just received her first Track scholarship recruitment letter. Here's what she looks like now.

Holey Guacamole! Doctors are not perfect and sometimes it is great when they get it wrong!
Remind me not get on your daughter's bad side - she looks unstoppable!
I wondered about the image too.
Very inspiring!!

Always get a second opinion. A lousy doctor can kill you. Your daughter is obviously a fighter. You should be proud and I guess you are.
Love and warmest wishes for your little fighter
Thank you for sharing
Fantastic news for your daughter and I hope most folks realize that when physicians give prognoses such as this they are typically going on the information available and statistical probability, which is different from a set in stone outcome.

It's so good to see kids grow up strong!
I looked up her photos and her smile looks a lot the same!
I’m a doc who treats plenty of serious issues. I try very hard to avoid telling my patients what they can’t do. Their eventual outcome often has more to do with attitude & tenacity than their diagnosis. Very rarely can you accurately predict outcomes.
So glad your daughter is doing great.

You are soooooooooo right

Good for her! May she have a long and happy life!
When I contracted polio about two months after I was born the doctor told my Mother that I was going to die. I am sure that he meant well, but fortunately I was too young to understand what he said so I ignored him!
Come on . . . . . . . you know I'm a track coach! there are 17 events, (including relays) . . .what does she do?????
Knowing where you are, it is quite possible I have already seen her compete . . . . .

Always good to hear news like this.
You can be very proud.
Pole vault.
Your avatar image of your daughter has always warmed my heart. Such a happy face. Thanks for the "rest of the story"...in the words of Paul Harvey.
I can't help smiling, myself, when I see your avatar, It's nice to hear about your daughter's success in overcoming obstacles, congrats on the scholarship.
She's a pole vaulter, just like her great grandfather who was favored to take the Gold medal at the 1924 Paris Olympics. He broke a bone in his foot on his first qualifying vault and never competed again.

That is the best news and greatest story on these forums in a long time!
Wonderful daughter -- and her parents too!
[PS: the cute photo is an "icon" not an "avatar."

What happened to the pic?
Thanks for sharing. Can we assume from the state referenced in your avatar name there was some divine intervention as well?

Thanks for sharing that joyful story!
This story is just a reminder that good things can still happen from bad stuff. We all should take note of that.

Truly inspirational! Thank you for sharing!
I keep all my poles in my Jack Benny vault!

I always thought that she was the cutest avatar on the boards. What a wonderful story.
I've been a pole vault fan for many years as I live withing miles of Jen Suhr, and her career has been spectacular.
Wonderful story.
I've always believed that children are the most resilient, especially when they are very young and don't really understand the meaning of the word "can't", so they will never cease to amaze me.
Beautiful story and thanks for sharing it.
