Really Nice 1972 Penny with possible Doubling?
Hello I am new to coin hunting. I have collected silver for years but never for errors or anything like that. I recently gor into coin hunting. I am really enjoying penny and dimes.
I have found some really nice condition 70's and 80's I never knew that coins that were really high graded with out errors or anything solf for anything until I saw a normal 1985 penny that was graded MS 68+ red go for like $5,000
So I have found some really nice examples I want to post. I also have a wuestion. On the grades what does the Red mean?
Now here is my penny Looks like there might be doubling on the G not sure but its still really nice. Would this be worth grading? If you need better pictures please let me know.

Red is new penny look, Brown is old penny look. Learn a lot more before throwing money at modern cents. Edit to say welcome.
I know nothing about all of the Lincoln errors and varieties...but to answer the question about "Red"...This may help to give you a visual explanation of the color differences with them:

No doubling and that is a 74-D, not a 1972.

Stealing a page from the @RogerB humor files, I have another explanation - the 2 is so strongly doubled it now looks like a 4.

If you have wonder about it it isn't important. Don't waste your eyesight worrying about microscopic traces of doubling.
It's doubled, but unfortunately it is not from a Doubled Die. It's strike doubling, also known as shelf doubling or mechanical doubling. Happens when it is being struck and not from a doubled die.
Common in the minting process. When it looks like a set of stairs that you could walk up, that is what you look for in strike, shelf, or mechanical doubling.

If I sent this in for a grade what do you think it would get? Would it be graded?
Around MS62. But why would you spend $50 on grading and shipping for a coin worth one cent?

This will be your downfall. Grade rarities are not something you should be chasing unless and until you are an expert. The 1985 "penny" that sold for $5,000 was anything but "normal".
You are trying to start out at the top of the game. You will get burned and disillusioned pretty quickly.
You posted a thread about a 1972 cent with doubling, included a picture of a 1974D cent, and then asked if you should get it graded??? Oh boy....
I am not trying to be nasty or discourage you from the hobby. Quite the opposite. Learn, learn some more, and then keep learning. Knowledge is power. And there is a lot of it for free here on the forum. Do not focus on trying to make easy money, or your efforts will just be providing easy money to others...
I took the coin to a local shop here in Vegas and they verified it had doubling not machine doubling.
I type fast and I don’t pay attention. Sorry I typed 72 instead of 74. Every post I’ve made on this board people spend more time correcting my grammar than answering my questions. If you did answer my question thanks.
Did they give you a value? You could just sell it to them.

If the Vegas expert likes it, then "Sell" --- but get cash, small unmarked bills.
That sounds like a good dealer to sell errors to, but not buy from.

This is either a lie or you need a better coin shop.

Then I would definitely send it in. If your local coin shop can't submit for you, you can join for a couple hundred bucksw and send it in yourself.
Post when you get it back...and not until you get back.
